i dont see any reason really why castillo is considered a star player?

not really, he cant steal bases, hes not worth his paycheck and is not a star player, hes not close to soriano, kent, vidro and many other players. if your not going to have speed to steal bases then atleast have power. which he doesnt

 

i dont see nothing wrong with trading him for a player like mateo and prospects. his value isnt as great as it once was. i say deal, unless he is willing to take a cut in his pay

I have to agree with Danny here, although he has tied his career high in homers and its not even the ASB so maybe he is developing some decent power. Definitely slumping in the SB category with almost as many CS as SB. Mateo? With the Reds? Can't remember which team he is on, but I think any trade with the Reds will be a package deal with Penny included. I would love to get OF Steve Smitherman in that deal, but I think he is becoming untouchable. Hitting with power and is learning good plate discipline.

henry mateo is with the expos, mateo has everything except hes 28, he hasnt been able to show his worth like ramon castro. vidro owns 2nd base mateo will see barely anytime there.

loretta is producing the same as castillo, actually even better, more homers, RBI's, walks, OBP, SLG, OPS with 25 less at bats. just doesnt have as many stolen bases as castillo, though castillo had an advantage, hes stolen i believe 4 off piazza.

why would expos want castillo? Cincinnati should be doing everything in their power to obtain castillo because I have never seen a team that needs a leadoff as desperately as they need one.

Lorretta would be our perfect answer for the 2 hole. However, I like my second basemans to hit for high averages and supply lots of speed. Loretta wont steal too much.

After reading it, I don't see how I at all showed favortism toward either situation. I explained evenly that is they win, they may stay, if they don't say buhbye...

If they drop a few games before the all-star break against teams such as the Red Sox, Braves, Phillies, Cubs, and Expos, who all have records over . 500, they could possibly decide to make our worst fears a reality, trading away star players for prospects.

The leadoff spot is a one-man island. There isn't room for two. Castillo's slap hitting does nothing to improve the top of the lineup with Frenchy in front of him.

 

Further, after seeing the results of both the Torborg "run, run then run again" philosophy and McKeon's indifferent approach to speed I think that the station to station offense predicated on speed wasn't what everyone thought it would be.

 

In retrospect I think a strong arguement could be made that JP was signed because the Marlins knew they either would not / could not keep Castillo after this year.

 

Dump Castillo and his upcoming FA salary and get some decent prospects for him.

I did write a paragraph saying they could choose to deal Castillo, dispite how well they play...

Admin, I haven't heard any feedback from you on this...

First off, if no one here posts what they THINK IS going to happen, the board would be dead. Pretty absurd statement. Besides, you just said they must be thinking about signing him b/c they haven't traded him. Now you are telling us what you THINK is their intentions..

 

Yes, there are plenty of possibilities, amongst them that Lowell could be back. But I don't go around deceiving people, nor do I interpret what the team's intentions are. I just use good ol' facts and common sense to make my judgement. Once again....

 

Lowell is in line for a 6-8 mil multi-year deal

 

A) The Marlins don't sign multi-year deals

B) The Marlins' payroll cannot accomodate 6-8 mil a year and retain enouogh money for other competitive players.

C) Lowell's trade value is huge, and an oppurtunity that they cannot afford to pass on.

D) Almost everyone (aside from some individuals here) in the media and baseball in general has said that Lowell will be on the market.

E) There is no reason for them to keep him, other than to appease a small fan base, assure themselves of no payroll flexibility for years to come and deprive themselves of a huge influx of young prospects and/or established MLB player(s).

 

And they haven't traded him yet because his value continues to climb. Why trade him when he's at an anomalous 10 HR's in May when you can trade the HR leader in a break-out year at the AS break?

I guess we'll have to wait and see which one of us is right.

NO, not Lowell-less rookies. How about pretty much the same team with a new LF and Cabrera at 3B. And I think you could probably end up getting a good OF for Lowell, along with some outstandingprospects.

If Lowell goes or doesn't go, Castillo is still gone.

 

It would be a pretty inexperienced team of future talent... The pitching would carry the team to . 500 all season...
