Beckett `definitely ready to go'

Final rehab start set for Thursday

By KEVIN BAXTER

Josh Beckett, who admits impatience is his worst enemy, will make his second rehab start Thursday, pitching for Double A Carolina in a Southern League game against Mobile.

Beckett, who threw 42 pitches in three scoreless innings in a Single A game Saturday, will throw a maximum of 75 pitches Thursday and, if all goes well, could return to the Marlins rotation July 1.

''I'm definitely ready to go,'' Beckett said Sunday. ``For a guy like me, it's not easy to stand still.''

Beckett said he has no pain in his sprained right elbow, but he has been ordered to follow a conservative schedule to avoid any setbacks. His return has already been pushed back two days by rainouts that delayed his rehab appearances.

Beckett, who made three trips to the disabled list last season, has been out since tweaking his arm in the first inning of a start against San Francisco on May 7.

Beckett's return figures to bolster a staff that has been dominant of late. In their past four games, the Marlins have allowed just four runs and 17 hits, and they have allowed one run or fewer in three of their past four games and four of their past seven.

Florida's starters rank third in the National League with a 3.87 ERA.

we dont REALLY need him we are fine the way we are but we will win more if he was with us....

he comes in, phelps moves to the pen, i see that as an improvement unless beckett begins to screw up

Well I think that is fairly obvious...

I'm a bit anxious to see how he does when he's back...

I'm impressed with how well they've done in his absence. Willis and Phelps have stepped in nicely and done a wonderful job. Getting Beckett back is icing on the cake.

lmao dont need Beckett???// man you need to get off that X to... ya just as bad as the guy that said Castillo Suxs

Beckett is absolutely sick.

The one stat that basically tells you he is going to be pretty damn good:

In his 1 and 1/3 year(s) career he has more K's than he does IP.

Our rotation will be set after we get Beckett back and Phelps, who has performed admirably, can get back to the pen and pitch long relief for us. Its also nice to know we have a reliable spot starter for us ready to go. And hes cheap!
