Before Thursday's game against the Mets, Marlins players were briefed about possibly playing some or all of the Expos games at U.S. Cellular. They delayed their charter flight to Chicago until 9 p.m. so team members could go home and pack additional clothes. The Marlins also gave players the option of bringing their families on the trip in case Hurricane Ivan hits near South Florida while they are on the road.

"It's a great [gesture], especially with what we have to go through the next month on the field with all the games in a short period of time," said Jeff Conine, whose team is scheduled to play 27 games in 24 days. "That's all we need right now, to be away and worry about our families."

Thats really stand up of him to do that

Heh.. what happens when Billy Koch comes into pitch? I would hope Sox fans would greet him warmly.

I don't think we'd boo him ... he was extremely frustrating to watch pitch, but he was a standup guy. He never skirted the blame, and I think most Sox fans respected him for that. Still, we were quite happy to have him off the team. :D

Know that Sox fans will be there in full force cheering on the Marlins, but I too fear that Flub fans will make their way to the South Side where trouble is bound to ensue. Trust me, the last thing I need to see in our park is more Cub fans....

Nothing like a brawl between Cubs and Sox fans during a Marlins-Expos game. :banghead :p But you're right, it could get ugly, which just strikes me as really bizarre.

I think if we do play up there it would be kinda fun to watch and see who cheers for who.

Believe me, we will try to get as many sox fans as possible out there. We are still in debt to your team for knocking out the Scrubs. If this thing happens, I'll be there.

I met him in Seattle. He was really cool. Never made any excuses and bought beer for all the Sox fans at the bar.

personally, i dont think the flubs fans would make the trip.

they'd either be at wrigley watching their own team play or they'd be at home watching their team on TV...i couldnt imagine very many of them at all turning out to root for the expos when their own team is in town.

You don't know Cub fans. They came out in bunches to Sox games this year to start trouble, especially during the half-price nights. There were numerous fights, mostly caused by drunken frat boy type Cub fans wearing their Cubby blue, acting like obnoxious jerks and talking trash about the Sox.
