September 22, 200422 yr Wouldn't hurt to pick up that Renteria kid. I heard he can hit in the clutch 568724 We have a shortstop with 20 home runs and a gold glove that will cost half as much. :thumbup As for Lowell, I will be stunned if he opts out because he's not gonna get that money on the open market. If he does leave, we'll move Cabs to 3rd and find an outfielder and re-sign Pavano, either way we're going to be alright. That said, I hope it doesn't happen. 568733 I wouldn't bank on Alex Gonzalez to much though. RBI'S and HR's are sometimes overrated..take a look at his OBP., Slugging with runners on, and K's. He K's to much in my eyes to ever be a great SS
September 22, 200422 yr for an 8 hole hitter he is gold 568772 on the contrary defensively he is gold, offensively he is super weak and his stats are inflated and dont represent what kinda hitter he really is. take a look at his OBP, 2nd lowest in the MLB, K' w/ runners on, and Slugging with runners on is lowwwwww. I find him highly overrated as a hitter and underratted as a fielder

If a player gets 4 rbi's in a game when the team is winning by 8 does that mean he mad he made a valuable contribution to the team? no exactly, Gonzalez K's an insane ammount of times and he chases bad pitches all the time. As a hitter he is weak as his OBP + SLUG indicate, RBI'S are a stat of chance. I liek his D, but just like Derrick Lee it is replacable. Marlins would have benefited from playing easley more at short.
September 22, 200422 yr hey if we keep gonzo his numbers next year will improve. probaly .255 20-25 homers, 80-85 rbi's. thats solid for him. plus add the runs he has saved this season with his plays to the rbi's. he would have like 105 rbi's man. if we get renteria then we have 3 lead off guys. dont get me wrong, i would be so happy if we get edgar, but the only thing better is a liitle bit of speed and average. but yes renteria is better, i wouldnt mind any. st.louie is working though to re-sign renteria.

September 22, 200422 yr There's tons of infielders hitting free agency this year. If Lowell likes it here, he'll be back, because he's not getting much more than $7 million from anyone else.
September 23, 200422 yr you know what?.. at this point it wouldnt be so bad if Lowell leaves *note: i havent really thought about it, just throwin it out there* 568623 If he leaves, it is because the Marlins arent getting a stadium. That is bad. But on the player/talent 'tip', I agree. We would free up a lot of money and could easily replace Lowell with Cabs. We would need to get a LFer though - but that is much easier than a power hitting 3B.
September 23, 200422 yr Marlins2003, Your info that there is someone positioning themselves to buy the team seems a bit far fetched. A little too much of a conspiracy theory for me. Do you know who the secret group is? You just won't state who? If the group wants to buy the team that eliminates Wayne?

Miguel Cabrera had 100+ RBI's but also 120+ K's, does that mean he sucks too? I can think of many times where Alex had the Game Winning RBI's, sure I can also think of many times where he choked with men on base. But you can say that about just everyone on this years Marlins team. I would not be so quick to get on Alex about it when at least he put up descent numbers.

September 23, 200422 yr Gonzalez is also the 8 hitter. If he hit 5th or something, fine. But he is the 8 place hitter, yet leads NL SS in homers and RBIs. Not bad for an 8 hitter when you had to go against SS like Edgar Renteria who are good hitters in an extremely good lineup.
