September 30, 200421 yr Thank you for producing my favorite baseball player of all-time, Andre Dawson.
September 30, 200421 yr Montreal will get another franchise. There fans have been treated horribly. And they were amongst the best as well.
September 30, 200421 yr Thank You for all the great memories you gave baseball. You were the first outside this great country to play this great game. You welcomed so many to this game. You were always the ugly duckling, but always there. May the players enjoy Washington and may Washington enjoy them. Hopefully in the next expansion many years from now, Montreal will have grown into a better city for this great game and be brought back into the club of cities who can say they are Major League.
September 30, 200421 yr All praise to Montreal’s fans. Curses to Montreal’s business community. Double curses to Montreal’s media companies.
September 30, 200421 yr I grew up in Palm Beach Gardens and, like many Palm Beach County fans here I'm sure, I spent a lot of time watching the Expos in spring training, as well as their WPB farm team, back in the day. I definitely have some fond memories of this team, and it's sad to see them go. Thanks for the memories.

September 30, 200421 yr If we're laying the blame on anyone, give it to Loria. He and Samson, more than anyone, buried that franchise. No team treated its home fans worse than the way they were treated under Loria and Samson...blacking out home games, not broadcasting in French-Canadian, etc. Whatever, at least they used Montreal as their test, took a "mulligan" and started over with us...

The Expos had no TV contract or radio contract because no broadcaster in Montreal would take the games or even negotiate with him! The Expos radio station changed format and dropped the team which created the entire problem. Loria couldn't even get a station in Vermont to carry them like they did early in Expos history. The CBC failed the Expos and the TV contract was never signed. Loria was not at fault.
September 30, 200421 yr The change in the economics of baseball in the late 80s pushed the Expos down this path. The sale of the team to Claude Brochu alienated the fan base by selling off its stars and reducing payroll to thirty million (this year's Expos team has a salary of $45M). By the time Loria took over the team atleast two sales to DC/NoVA investors had been blocked by MLB. The only thing you can fault Loria for is not catering to a Montreal business community which were unwilling to pay market value for advertising and broadcast rights. But he sure does make a good scapegoat because he was the only American owner the Expos had.
