July 8, 200323 yr Why must everything be looked at economically? Why can't things be looked at for the common good of the people (wow thats a novel idea). Legalizing a drug that has been proven to be a gateway drug (I'm sorry whoever said it wasnt for them...cigarettes aren't addicting to some people means nicotine isnt addictive?), and is mind-altering (DWIs arent just from alcohol ya know) is not in the best interest of the public. Yah it helps the people who wanna get high, but for the general public, it isnt a good idea.

Yah it helps the people who wanna get high, but for the general public, it isnt a good idea. And you think this wouldn't help the common good of the people? A good economical boost doesn't help the common good of the people? There are many things available in this world that aren't very good for people morally, physically, and pshychologically. Pornography might not help the "common good of the people" (whatever that means) but its there if you want it. So is alcohol, so are cigarettes, and so are FATTY foods. If everything was done for the "common good of the people" none of these things would exist. But I guess thats what you want. Just because its available doesn't mean you have to partake in it. Don't like Violence in movies? Don't watch. Don't like drunk people? Don't go to bars. Don't like Pot? Don't smoke it and stay away from it. :banghead :banghead :banghead :banghead :banghead :banghead
July 11, 200323 yr so, because there are harmful things allowed by this govt, we keep on legalizing more harmful things. In fact, let's not stop with marijuana....how about all drugs....cocaine, heroine, etc. And let's not just stop there! We could really help our economy by legalizing anabolic steroids! Let's legalize theft, murder, rape, etc. because prisons cost a fortune to run! Oh, but wait.....the government wont legalize things that harm OTHERS...tey should just legalize things that harm the USER, right? Well, the government should protect all people...or at least strive to. Drugs harm people. Rape harms people. Murder harms people. THERE ARE THINGS IN THIS WORLD THAT ARE MORE IMPORTANT THAN MONEY, TAXES, ECONOMY, ETC. OF THOSE THINGS, SAFETY AND HEALTH WILL BE SACRIFICED SO OUR PRECIOUS ECONOMY CAN GET BACK ON TRACK WITH DRUG MONEY. Awesome. Our economy is in such bad shape that we are resorting to drugs for $. Will our country become so greedy that we will do anything for money? Unfortunately, probably.
July 11, 200323 yr Author While I agree, you have to remember what many have said is the real religion of the United States. The Almighty Dollar. If you can make a buck you do so. While I agree it is not the way to go, for most of the past 50 years it has became more and more like this. Unfortunately.
July 12, 200323 yr exactly, Johnny Reb. Unfortunately. I for one not only think that money should not be the main concern of the government, therefore, I believe marijuana should not be legalized. Besides medicinal uses (I'm not gonna lie, I really dont know much about the effects of it medically, why its used, etc.), the only reason people can say is "it will get taxed heavily and help the economy." At least this discussion hasn't brought out high schoolers saying stuff like "it should be legalized dawg! I love dat sh*t! I smoke weed everyday, yo!" I enjoy intelligent conversations, even if I dont agree with everyone.
July 15, 200323 yr Author intelligent conversations are very beneficial, especially to those with little to no known knowledge about a set subject.
July 15, 200323 yr legalizing marijuana and making only 3 oz available will not keep drug dealers off the street. They will still have a reason....people want more than 3 oz...what if they want a 8 oz of pot...how are they gonna get that? Not at WalMart. So they go down to Steady Eddie at the street corner and get some there. it is totally rare that anyone ever buys more than 3 oz at any given time. so 8 oz's is totally out of the question. the people that buy over 3 oz are huge, huge pot dealers which there are only a few of those. i think you guys think 3 oz's of bud is nothing. 3 oz's of bud is a huge amount, i doubt anyone will go and buy 8 oz's off the street corner. so if the law i you cant have morethan 3 oz's of marijuana, that will not bethe problem. the problem will be the guys sellng 10 pieces abnd gram bags on the corner.
July 16, 200323 yr hmmm...i know plenty who buy more than 3 oz at a time. Hangin with the real CRIMINALS huh?
July 17, 200323 yr yes...as opposed to the fake ones. No...just plenty of people by lots of weed at a time. But, the fact still remains......what the heck, I dont even remember. This topic has gone of on a tangent, and I dont feel like looking through the thread to find out what everyone was saying...we're gonna need Johnny Reb to bring this thread back on track.

How did it go off on a tangent? We're discussing the Pros and Cons of legalization. There are many factors to argue from both sides. Thats what makes it such a good debatable issue. Anyway, LEGALIZE, LEGALIZE
November 18, 200322 yr The problem that I see with legalizing marijuana use is the operation of machinery, particularly cars. A person can have 1 beer and still legally drive, but one joint and that is probably too much to drive a car safely. Why should thousands of people die to support a bad habit, get prescription drugs such "Buspar" if you need to be mellow.
November 18, 200322 yr there are a number of psychoactive drugs that are legal for medicinal use: prozac, ritalin, buspar, nitrous oxide, etc. i think marijuana should be legal ONLY for medicinal purposes. medically, it shouldn't be used for its psychoactive properties, but you can't deny that it has quite an effect on the management of glaucoma. marijuana itself is largely a harmless drug. what is harmful is the "gateway" it opens up. i voted no in this poll. it shouldn't be "legalized" in the traditional sense, though i think it should be legal for certain medical purposes. regardless, it should always be handled as a controlled substance.
November 18, 200322 yr reefer need to be legalized. less ppl would be getting arrested and smokin endo is good for ur eyes . win win situation

November 18, 200322 yr im voting yes just because we had the same problem with alcohol back in the days when they ilegalized it and turned out being a very bad idea...when they turned it legal once again there was quality control (people stopped dying from dangerous home made alcohol), crime rates went down and everybody was happy

Why should thousands of people die to support a bad habit, get prescription drugs such "Buspar" if you need to be mellow. 1 beer for an avg. size person usually works out to a .08 BAC for about an hour. In many states, this is the LEGAL limit. So its not necessarily a good idea to even drink 1 beer before you drive unless you've given yourself enough time to sober up (from however many beers you had). 1 joint can vary mainly depending on how much you normally smoke. If your a daily head :peepwall then 1 joint is how you get ready to drive, if its your first joint in 2 months or ever - you should just stay on the couch. You know what, I'm changing my stance - Don't legalize it. It'll just screw with my buzz if everybody else is stoned too. oh, and about this Why should thousands of people die to support a bad habit, get prescription drugs such "Buspar" if you need to be mellow. 3 lil syllables - TO-BACC-O
November 18, 200322 yr marijuana is less harmful than tobbacco or alcohol to the body? yes.... but its messes with your head and leads to worse things alcohol and tobacco dont do that(well alky does mess with your head but you get the point)
November 18, 200322 yr yea.... the first time i dipped that was insane... i dont do it anymore though.... havent in about 3-4 years
November 18, 200322 yr i dont do it toooo much. After a big meal or somethin...its a good feeling. Or sometimes while watchin some football on tv. It's nice.
November 18, 200322 yr And people think todays youth is screwed up? Imagine tommorrow's youth, if this is legalized. Imagine the future of the world, for that matter.
