June 29, 200322 yr Its an interesting question. A question that has been more in the news a lot, especially in the last ten years. Should we legalized marijuana? If so why? If marijuana is legalized then what is next? At what point do you draw the line and say enough is enough. I know there are many younger members of this community and this is an issue that I find strikes a cord with younger audiences for some reason. Participate. Thanks.
June 29, 200322 yr We have had this topic before and I have no problem with people that do use it. In fact a lot of my good freinds use it. But... Whether most like to admit it, it can lead to harm and more harmful drugs. When you get drunk, smoke a pack and then light one, Is that really healthy? If it to were be legalized then would come, The Ectacy addicts, The Crack, The Heroin and so on. Sometimes you just have to draw the line!
June 29, 200322 yr Author Marijuana does some good, that is documented. But does the good outweigh the bad. If marijuana were used the same as most other prescription drugs there would be no problem. But it isnt. Its best for it to remain illegal; but you can make a strong economic case to legalize it.
June 30, 200322 yr No! You want more people to die? This will become a very bad Country if people start using it. There will be more accidents and more deaths......
June 30, 200322 yr Author These results so far are a bit surprising. I was expecting results completely opposite. Perhaps not everyone has seen this topic or are withholding their views. Remember people this is the Internet, you can say whatever you want to say.
June 30, 200322 yr dont legalize it. It's a gateway drug. People say, "well alcohol, caffeine, nicotine, etc. are all drugs and bad for you"...well, if they are all bad for you, what would legalizing another substance that is bad for you and mind-altering a good thing?
June 30, 200322 yr Author I agree with the majority so far. Marijuana should in no way, shape or form be legalized. Much more harm can be done than good. Like I said the only arguements in favor of marijuana can be for medicinal purposes and economic purposes. The bad still far outweighs the good. Keep it illegal.
June 30, 200322 yr Johnny Reb: You are a king among men. Don't legalize the stuff, it's not a good thing for people to start taking and making it legal -- will increase useage. True, it'd squash shady drug dealers basically but at what cost? The cost of more lives, that's what.
July 1, 200322 yr Don't legalize it, It will get too expensive w/taxing!! Grow you own for your own!!! :rasta
July 2, 200322 yr Legalize it. Medicinally, at least. Having a mother who had a hell of a battle with cancer, marijuana was a blessing. Chemo would make her miserable, and pot would make it all better. of course, she had to be careful, as getting caught with it would be a disaster. As sick as she was, she was always afraid to use it because of what would happen if she got caught. 99% of the people just want to get high, but medicinal marijuana is very useful. Marijuana is also used to ease the symptoms of multiple sclerosis, glaucoma, epilepsy, and arthritis. Legalizing marijuana isn't going to do anything harmful. I'm not a smoker, but if I want to go out and smoke it, I'm going to. The fact that it's illegal isn't going to stop me. As a matter of fact, the idea that marijuana is illegal actually makes a lot of teens want to smoke it because they think they're being "cool" by being a rebel and breaking the law. Part of the thrill of it is doing something illegal. It's like alcohol, in a way. People like the feelings it gives them, but teen pot heads just like being "badasses" and doing illegal things. Legalizing it would take away the thrill, and maybe cut down on teen users. Like I said, adult users will do it regardless of whether or not it's legal.
July 2, 200322 yr that is B.S. I'm sorry. More people will use it if it's legalized. That is just flat out wrong that more people use it because it's illegal and rebelious. And kids can get ahold of anything they want. Why legalize something just because people can get a hold of it. Anyone can go murder someone if they wanted to. So should we legalize it? No. Anyone can get drunk and hop in a car and try driving. Should we legalize Driving While Intoxicated? No. Anyone can find pot and smoke it. Should we legalize it? No.
July 3, 200322 yr Author The medicinal reason is one of the biggest reasons people give for legalizing marijuana. I think it really should be fully considered. But the problem is there are far too many who would abuse marijuana for medicinal purposes than those that use it for the reasons given for medicinal purposes. I dont think you should automatically associate marijuana use with people who would abuse it in this instance. If it were to be allowed you would have to regulate its use, thats defintely for sure.
July 5, 200322 yr I've done some reading on reasons for legalizing a while back. First of all, the legal age to puchase it would be 21. Also, you would only be able to legally have so much. I think that the max legal amount that one could own is something like 3 ounces should a law get passed. I know that police in Nevada wanted it legalized for the simple fact that busting someone for marijuana takes them off the street for half a day when they could be out catching real criminals. Plus it'll also put pot dealers out of business. Granted, kids will find away to get the weed anyways if they want it, but this way it would be more regulated. Besides, I don't know about where you live, but around where I'm from, it's easier to find a pot dealer than it is to find someone who will go to the store and purchase items for a minor. As for pot being a gateway drug, I don't buy that. When I was doing drugs, pot had no bearing on the fact that I did them. My girlfriend at the time did them and they were free. In fact, I used marijuana to help myself quit. It kept me from trying to find that fix. So yeah, I think it should be legal. People are going to do what they do and most of them won't get stopped. I say don't worry about it and let the police catch real criminals instead of petty pot heads who don't harm anyone. I know most of you don't agree with me and that's cool. Everyone's got their own opinion.
July 5, 200322 yr I think that the max legal amount that one could own is something like 3 ounces should a law get passed. Oh, that's it? :banghead :thumbdown
July 6, 200322 yr Author Here we go folks.... We have a couple of reasons for legalizing marijuna. Let's ensure some real debate now instead of putting down their thoughts with simple words. Give a rebuttal and lets try to flesh out more of hte ideas. I would love someone to present the economic advantages of legalizing marijuana.
July 6, 200322 yr I would love someone to present the economic advantages of legalizing marijuana. I know YOU would... Simple. Tobacco companies make three times more than what they do now, st the higher price of this country literally "going up in smoke".
July 8, 200322 yr legalizing marijuana and making only 3 oz available will not keep drug dealers off the street. They will still have a reason....people want more than 3 oz...what if they want a 8 oz of pot...how are they gonna get that? Not at WalMart. So they go down to Steady Eddie at the street corner and get some there. And as one person stated, kids smoke weed because it is illegal, then legalizing marijuana will not solve the problem. It will only create more problems. If the thrill of smoking pot is gone, they will go to something else, whether it be X, coke, lsd, or whatever.......and how many of yall really believe legalizing all drugs will help this country?
July 8, 200322 yr why must we legalize mind altering drugs? And if we can legalize marijuana, should we legalize anabolic steroids? If so, Jose Canseco is off the hook. I personally dont want to be around a bunch of potheads, and I personally dont want to be around a bunch of acne infested, small-balled, muscle-bulging, boobs-growing, roid-rage maniacs either!
July 8, 200322 yr and I personally dont want to be around a bunch of small-balled maniacs either! :lol :lol :lol
July 8, 200322 yr Legalizing Marijuana = We will be speaking a new language in 5 years WHAT???? U guys are trippin. Legalize it (or at least decriminalize it) and everybody would be better off. You want to talk financial implications? Pot would be taxed SO heavily it would be insanely high priced. Potencies could be controlled and monitored by GOVERNMENT agencies, not Jed in his moms basement. Pot is not Crack. Pot is not Heroin. Pot is not BEER or LIQUOR. Pot is scientifically classified as a stimulant/hallucinogen. All it really does is mellow you out. And if it doesn't mellow you out, you shouldn't be doing it because something in your body isn't jiveing with it. Just like you shouldn't drink liquor if you get violently ill. I'd rather rather pass out with some ding-dongs than pass out and drown in my own VOMIT from being piss drunk. In no way am i saying everyone SHOULD be smoking Pot. Theres tons of people who wouldnt know how to handle and would/could hurt themselves or others. The same way that there are MILLIONS of people who shouldn't drink either and DO hurt themselves and many many others. let me rest my fingers and I'll be ready for the rebuttle. :happydance :happydance :happydance :happydance
July 8, 200322 yr If that many people bought it, and if it were that highly taxed, we could get our new stadium!
July 8, 200322 yr If that many people bought it, and if it were that highly taxed, we could get our new stadium! Now thats some positive thinking! The concessions would ALWAYS be busy too. For Promos we could have Rasta night, Marlins rolling papers night, Marlins Lighter night (actually thats a bad idea), but you get what im saying........ :rasta
