Mets fans and Rangers fans, for all of the ineptitude of their franchises, know that their teams will do whatever it takes to attempt to put a winning product on the field, and that's why the fans feel alright with paying the prices. there's a comfort that comes from those high prices: there won't ever have to be a decision where money is the chief issue. I'd take a bad team that tries to win but just can't (the New York Rangers, the Mets, even to an extent the Red Sox) over a team that can be very good but stubbornly refuses to improve itself because of money problems. I will say this: Loria can double the price of my seats, and if it means we keep this team 100% intact and add on (Delgado, or Pedro, or Sosa), I'll send in my money with the biggest smile. However, if this price hike isn't accompanied by an attempt at on-field improvement, this is my last year as a season ticket holder.

Plus, none of the teams in that division are big money teams, so they're all pretty evenly matched on paper. And I will say this about the Twins, they're more overrated than the A's. Torri Hunter had 81 RBI, and that was the team lead. That's pathetic for any division winner.

There's far worse owners than Loria. More owners are like Carl Pohlad and Paul Godfrey than they are George Steinbrenner. They come in, strip payroll, complain complain complain then ask for you to buy them a new stadium. Atleast Loria is willing to take some financial loss for the promise of a wealthy future. Facing the problems the Marlins face any other owner would've spent as much as the $55-$65 Loria has destinated the past three seasons. To say that there are worse owners than Loria is unfair if you go by the standard that Loria is a good owner because he's losing money...a lot of teams are allegedly in that boat. The fact that we won the WS last year has very little to do with how good an owner Loria is...I think the credit deserves to go to Beinfest for that one, and Loria does deserve some too, but that's a murky subject. Anyway, I guess I see what you're saying, but I don't really think Loria is taking financial losses for the "promise of a wealthy future." Common sense says that if a baseball team is such a black hole for money, you get out, so I don't buy the notion that he's hemmorhaging cash, yet he vehemently refuses to sell the team. I will say this: The mark of a good owner isn't how much the team wins or loses, it's how much he's willing to do for the team. Steinbrenner would do anything to give the Yankees a chance to win, I'm not sold on that being said for Loria.
