I lost (misplaced or my dog ate) the PB Post pre-season article that provided the Marlins' roster salaries. Is there a simply accessed site with that info'? Annoys me when RAMP comes up with it instantly. Thought of it yesterday when I was not excited about the acquisition of Mark DeRosa. But, heard herein, that he would cost less than Mordecai or Fox. Thanks!

JRod, thanks for that break-down. Now, how do I find out contractual spec's; e.g. length of commitment? Have copied your break-down, good start for me.

when didwe acquire mark de rosa?

Didn't acquire De Rosa. But hot rumor topic yesterday including Braves AAA pitcher Marquis. Lot of positive excitment on our site.

no problem arnie

lemme try and see if i can find the matter of years that we are tied up wit the players

i think juan pierre is a steal for only a milion dollars a year

and a total waist of 1.4 mill sits in the minors in vladimir nunez

i can't believe we have so much room for investment. i mean, when you look at easily replaceable guys like redmond, nunez and pavano making a mill and a half a year. that's 4.5 mills guys. we can ship them all out of here, invest that in signning our current players and replace them with minor leaguers.

i dont hnk pavano is a waist, in my mind he is a great no.5 starter. dont totally judge him because he had a terrible game in fenway park. he is a streaky pitcher, thats what all no.5 starters are supposed to be.

but lets just say a.j. is ready to come back next year, who will we ship out penny or pavano. one of the two will definately be sent out in my in mind

next year we could have a hell of a rotation

a.j.

beck

red

willis

penny/pavano

but i say ship out red and nunez, thats another 3 mill we could use in the weak spots of or roster

Dumb question. But, no apologies. Do Teams carry contract insurance on players? e.g. A.J. out for the season.

yes they do

The Marlins DO NOT have insurance on Burnett or any of their players. They are footing the bill themselves. It was/is part of their one year contract thing.

This is typical, or uniquely insane?

Actually, because of the nature of these unique type of policies, it only makes sense economically if you have multi-year contracts to insure. Since none of the contracts are multi-year no need for insurance.

Right. You just don't see insurance taken out on players unless they have a long expensive contract. And even then, the premiums have skyrocketed in recent years. It's one of the reasons teams may start to shy away from really long-term deals. Often there's a 3 or 6 month waiting period before they can start to collect anyway.

Arnie, as far as committment to players, the Marlins really aren't committed to anyone next year except for Juan Pierre who will make 2.2 million under contract.

They have control of Beckett, Spoony, and obviously Willis and Cabrera. Those players will get minimal raises if any.

Luis, Hollandworth, Pudge, Fox, & Mordecai are potential free agents.

The rest are all arbitration eligible.

Mordi will be back here... He's cheap and valuable, same goes for Fox... Luis will be traded, Pudge will leave via FA, same for Hollandsworth...

Liked what you said. Now, do you think we can play Mordecai and Fox to keep them bench-sharp? (I won't even mention Castro; the situation is so disgusting).

A few thoughts....

True Hotcorner, they do have a waiting period to collect. But the biggest reason why they don't insure 1 year deals is because companies that insure human interests (ie. Lloyd's of London, etc et al.) now require a 6 month deductable of salary. This makes it pretty pointless to insure, as the only way you would collect any postiive amount of money is if the player got hurt in the first 5 months of the deal and was out for the remainder of the contract. next year we could have a hell of a rotation

It's very optomistic to think AJ would be back by mid 2004, much less opening day. And besides, he may be more attractive to both the Marlins and other teams coming out of the BP now.

And don't kid yourself, Nunez is hardly attractive in the trade market. ASk yourself this: If he's so unattractive that you want to trade him, why would anyone else want him?
