October 14, 200422 yr Mines simple. Make sure Lowell stays. Sign Pavano. Sign Lo Duca. Sign Armando.. if not, I am getting more comfortable as time goes on with Mota as our closer... If you look at his splits, he has been dominant April-August but has been awful in September the last 2 years. I think that directly correlates with being overused.. As a closer his work load would be cut by about a third. Sign Ismael as our 5th starter and make sure we have a reliable '6th starter' this upcoming year. Sorry mine doesn't include crazy dreams of getting Sammy, Delgado or Beltran.
October 14, 200422 yr To me while it would hurt a lot...Lowell is the least of the important of FA's. Pavano and Benitez would be great because their roles cannot be filled. Lowell, while we would miss him and love him, can be replaced by Cabs at 3B and a cheap alternative at OF like Jacque Jones. I'd really like to go after Jones and maybe sign someone else instead of Ish for that 5th spot.

Our biggest weakness last year was the lack of the home run threat. Taking away our 2nd best home run threat would make that problem way worse. Take Lowell out of this lineup and we may only have 1 player with over 20 HR's next year.
October 14, 200422 yr What we really need is to resign the guys listed above and add another (big) bat
October 14, 200422 yr Pavano isn't critically important to me because I think we're going to end up overpaying for someone whose numbers kind of overrate him in my mind. If it comes down to Pavano or a big bat, I'm taking the big bat. We can't throw Kensing or Small or Messenger or whoever into the end of the rotation, but we don't need to pay for Pavano, a very expensive 3 starter is a luxury that we can't afford when consistent offensive output is our biggest problem.
October 14, 200422 yr Author Why would you want Pavano to leave? Me, i dont trust Beckett/Burnett. Neither have shown they can stay healthy for a whole year and Willis still hasn't shown consistancy. Pavano HAS to stay.
October 14, 200422 yr Pavano can leave 591893[/snapback] I agree. We could probably sign Clement AND Paul Wilson for how much Pavano may be offered. I'd much rather go after that combo than Pavano/Valdez.

Clement won't get much less than Pavano, that's for sure.

Pavano is extremely overrated, IMO. I hope he rejects our 3-year $21 million offer. I don't think he'll be worth that over 3 years.

Nobody knows how much these guys will get. It's all speculation at this point. Your numbers are based on zero fact at all, you're just pulling them out of your ass. Clement will make less than Pavano, but not $4 million less.

I'm blown away by that fact! :whistle
