Penny or Pavano to bullpen?

Featured Replies

Pavano as bullpen candidates, with Penny the likelier choice because he throws harder.

"I wouldn't," Penny said when asked if he'd like to relieve. "I couldn't. My arm wouldn't allow it."

Team officials had no update on Spooneybarger's scheduled examination Wednesday by orthopedic surgeon James Andrews.

Cabrera at first? Rookie left fielder Miguel Cabrera will take grounders at first base during pre-game batting practice, but infield coach Perry Hill rejected speculation that it's a prelude to the Marlins possibly trading first baseman Derrek Lee.

No Dunn: The Reds have no plans to trade first baseman Adam Dunn, industry sources said. One prospective trade had the Marlins sending Penny and second baseman Luis Castillo to Cincinnati for Dunn.

His Arm can take it and its true. He is used to throwing 70+ pitches and he has never been a reliever before. I would put him in relief ONLY this year because Pavano has given us signs that he can pitch good.

His arm can take it...what a wuss. He can pitch 1-2 innings of relief a night if needed. He usually pitches 7 innings every 5 days. He can toss an inning every night of the week and have the same amount of pitches.

i rather see pavano in the pen. neither has been particularly consistent all year and pavano has experience in the pen. but if you ask me, they should both remain in the starting rotation.

Penny wants to start.

He might be better as a reliever then. Especially as a closer. He has filthy stuff and can go all out in the late innings in a closer role.

Dotel, Smoltz and Gange wanted to start too, look where they are. Michael Jordan was a basketball player who could do everything, but he wanted to play baseball more and stunk. It's not what you want, it's what you can do. If Penny can pitch better in the pen, then he shall be in the pen.

Link My arm wouldn't allow it? Just like your arm has allowed all those runs in the fist 4 innings you usually last? Gimme a break - he just went down a few more notches on the respect-o-meter :thumbdown

The reason he said that is because he wants to start. I would just want him in the Pen this year but who are they going to replace him with? Phelps?

I like a four man rotation. They used to be used before and they lived.

Redman

Beckett

Willis

Phelps

Put Pavano and Penny in the Pen.

Does Anyone think Brad Penny is similar to Jason Schmidt? Both have been said to have Ace Talent when they were/still is young. Schmidt didnt use it till he went to SF from Pittsburgh.

i dont know how becketts arm would hold up throwing that much....could hurt him.........

The Marlins won't put Penny in the pen. His value would decrease substantially.

Set-up guys just don't demand alot of attention because it is the purgatory for those who don't have the skills to start, but also don't have the stones to close. Yes, Penny fits these requirements, but he's too young and valuable (especially in a trade) right now.

i have a feeling we will trade for Sullivan or Gabe White and 2 prospects from the Reds soon.... Penny or Castillo would be involved

You said it....

It's only a matter of time until the Reds get suckered into another trade.... How's Ryan Dumpster doing this year, btw?

I believe he will be put into the pen if he doesn't get traded, I hope we trade him to an AL team. If not, the Reds will do.

if we do a Gabe White/Scott Sullivan for Castillo or Penny, I hope we get Stephen Smitherman as one of the prospects....

hey we raped Cincy once, how about twice?
