PhishPhan
Steve won't come back. Urban is my choice on here. Bobby Petrino would most fit in. For the record I dislike the Gators and am a UM fan, so I do not speak for most of the G'ville Rock City clan.
Mark
Who should? Bob Stoops, easily, although it won't happen. But there is no way he is leaving his god like status in Oklahoma unless Foley dishes out about 5 mil a year. Who will? More than likely Spurrier, but next in line would be Urban Meyer from Utah. In all honesty, other than Stoops, I would like to see Meyer calling the shots around here. He's had success everywhere he has gone and his playcalling combined with Florida's athletes would be dangerous.
PhishPhan
Anyone who thinks Spurrier comes back just doesn't get it. Spurrier is a college football god, let alone what he is in G'ville. He can only hurt himself and his legacy if he comes back, and his ego can not handle that. Also, times are different than when he was here in the early 90's. He will not be able to dominate the recruits like he used to. Kids are going all through the country now, they don't stay in state like they did. And he also has to compete with Miami, UCF and USF for recruits, something he never did. UCF and USF are new, not to mention FIU and FAU. And people are quick to forget while Spurrier was here Miami was on probation so they couldn't recruit like they could now. Also, UF is the current distant third talent wise in the state alone to Miami and FSU and Miami is light years ahead of the other two. Anyway the UF job is still a coveted one. I just think Spurrier will go to the Dolphins, so he isn't written down in the books as a loser in the NFL, because he can only make the Dolphins better and take the credit. Predictions on the hiree: Urban Myer (Utah Coach), Bobby Petrino (Louisville), or some dark horse no one ever heard of a-la the Zook hiring. Mark
UF doesn't have to compete with UCF and USF. UCF and USF will never have the same talent as UF, FSU, and Miami. Spurrier was never really a good recruiter. He got beat out by Bowden all the time, and he never, ever recruited Miami. Spurrier left 3 years ago, not much has changed. We'll just have to wait and see. It's a huge possibility.
PhishPhan
UCF and USF will never be as good as any of the others, but in the last 10 years which school arguablly had the best QB out of all the Florida schools? UCF with Culpepper. UCF and USF can steal a few recruits here and there and thats all that matters. Miami just eats up recruits from all over, including a lot in Florida. Mark
Culpepper was going to attend UF but didn't have the grades... Miami gets a lot of quality players because they are a private school. Guys like Devin Hester and Frank Gore would NEVER make it academically at UF.

Guest Fritz
I'm gonna guess either Urban Meyer or Butch Davis. LOL at the thought of Tedford, Spurrier, or Stoops coaching at UF. Might as well list Vince Lombardi and Bill Belichek. :plain
g8trz2003
I'm not ruling Spurrier out...word on the street is that he will indeed go back. Obviously any Gator fan would want Spurrier back, but if not him, I want either Shannahan or Stoops. If not, Rich Rodriguez would suffice for me. His offense is sweet. Guest Fritz
Yeah, Rich Rodriguez is gonna leave his guaranteed yearly BCS alma mater for a team that's maybe the fourth or fifth best in terms of talent in the SEC... :plain
g8trz2003
no one on the board is saying he's coming. I don't know what your point is. I was just responding to the ESPN.com implication that Rodriguez is on the list. IF he were on the list, I wouldn't mind seeing him in Orange and Blue. Guest Fritz
I don't think there's enough talent on defense. The defensive line and defensive backs are abysmal. The offense, that's another story. Only offense that has as much talent is either Auburn or Georgia. I hope for the best for the Gators though because it's more fun to watch a winner and it's more fun to watch the Noles beat a 9 or 10 win team than a 7 or 8 win team. :mischief

Mark
Florida is consistently the most talented in the SEC. The d-line and secondary are a little suspect this year, but the team as a whole is near the top. There's a good chance Spurrier is coming back. His recruiting isn't the best, but he sure can coach. It's the total opposite with Zook.

A lot of players came for Zook. If they get some nobody like Urban Meyer, you'll see an exodus. Already one of the top recruits - Reggie Nelson decommitted from UF this week and might go to LSU. By not naming a coach sooner than later we will lose some talent. :confused
