RockyMountainMarlin
I mean if we would trade him for Morris, Williams or Marquis we'd be much better off ... :mischief After watching the Cardinals suck so bad, I appreciate what these guys did even more. So what that they didn't win Cy Youngs and MVPs.

jonnylons
The Cards got further that I expected, honestly. I thought that their pitching wouldnt hold up - but their hitting was excellent. Until they faced the Red Sox (and that perplexes me more than anything - there really wasnt anyone that was unhittable in that rotation). That said, you can only win in the postseason with power pitching. You cant finesse you way to the championship. Just ask the Braves who have been trying to figure that out for over a decade now. Call me when either of them pitch into the 7th inning of a World Series game. :whistle The Cards would trade 3/5ths of their starting staff to get Beckett at the price he makes. f***ing hell, the best Cards' pitcher would have been, at best, our 4th starter in the playoffs behind Beckett/AJ/Pavano. :shifty

I've been fed up all year about how "great" their pitching is. He just told me Carpenter is better than any of our pitchers and that Morris is their #5 pitcher. :lol
Fish Fillet
its not that hes overrated he just need to stay healthy and hell put up the numbers hes capable of 602735[/snapback] I dunno about trading for a Cards pitcher, but Beckett is highly overrated. Regardless of his superior performance in the playoffs last year he's a career .500 pitcher who has repeatedly been prone to injury. Not exactly a world beater. And the excuses about potential only go so far. This has been the catch-all excuse for every SP since Dempster, but at some point these guys have to consistently produce, and not one of them has. The ability to perform in the playoffs doesn't mean squat if you can't get in.

ImSmarterThanYou
Well the fact of the matter is this. You can't judge how good a guy is based on 2 starts, because he can get lucky or unlucky. Beckett was determined good based on 2 starts. Those two he pitched against the Yankees. I haven't seen his curveball break like that any other time, so yes, he's over-rated. When you look at Beckett's career adjusted ERA+ you can see that he is not a very good pitcher. I don't care how many Yankees he K'd in the WS. It's not a big enough sample. He still believes he can overpower anyone, and gets burned a lot because of it. We can only hope some maturity will do wonders for him. Skully
I know this is a very minor detail, but his postseason did not just consist of 2 starts vs the Yankees. Without him in the NLCS, we don't make it to the World Series... He had that one complete game shutout vs the Cubs at the Pro... Then he had the game where he came in for 4 innings of relief and shut them down. His ERA this past season wasn't too bad and he showed signs of brilliance. I was at the game vs the White Sox where he hurt his back. He looked absolutely unhittable that day (8 k's through 3 innings). If he can stay healthy and listen to his coaches, he's gonna be one of the best.
El Guapo
everyone knows what he can do,but he hasnt done it with consistancy...the only way this guy gets the he's going to be a bust label off him is that he needs to start haveing good seasons and he has to listen to his pitching coach .. PBMarlin
I'm not at all ready to give up on Beckett yet. He is a diamond in the rough, and once he gets his act together will be lights out. Could it be 2005?
