November 10, 200421 yr The club wants to move Garret Anderson back to left field, but outside of Beltran and Steve Finley, who turns 40 in March, the free agent market at center is thin. So, according to sources, the Angels may attempt to raid three lower-revenue teams for their center fielders. Toronto's Vernon Wells, Minnesota's Torii Hunter and Florida's Juan Pierre would fit ideally into the Angels' plans as those players get older and more expensive for their current clubs. Wells, who hit .272 with 23 homers despite a calf injury last year, is signed through 2007 for a reasonable $12.8 million. But the Blue Jays' top prospect is center fielder Alexis Rios, and the Angels could aid the financially strapped club by sending them another young, cheap player among a pool of Dallas McPherson, Casey Kotchman or catcher Jeff Mathis. Hunter, the Twins' Gold Glove winner, will make $8 million each of the next two seasons, an annual salary that would consume 15 percent of the Twins' 2004 payroll of $54 million. Pierre, 27, will make $3.4 million in 2005, the final year of a four-year, $7.5 million contract. Pierre also would be a perfect fit in the Angels' aggressive offense, but it would cost them a younger talent, such as Pierre's good friend Chone Figgins, to get Florida to trade him.

They were once considered the 3 best shortstops in baseball when they played for 3 seperate teams. Now, there's a chance they can all play in the same infield..... Amazing and disgusting... I predict Edgar Renteria signs with the Giants.... San Francisco has some money this year, with Robb Nen's contract off their backs. They are looking for an all around shortstop. I've heard Renteria's name along with Orlando Cabrera's... They're also looking for a center fielder, which will move Marquis Grissom to right field.... Finally, they plan on talking to Troy Percival and Armando Benitez to fill their closer spot. I don't think Dustin Hermanson is the answer there. Should be an exciting off season.

As for the Three SS's.....there production will always go down as long as they are with the Yankees as is the case with all "name" signings they have.
November 10, 200421 yr I've seen some stuff on Moises Alou wanting to play with his dad, but I want the Giants to get someone young that can step up when Barry Bonds retires. I've read some articles on some local San Francisco newspapers, and they all think that the Giants are gonna get a big name just before Bonds retires... I wouldn't mind seeing Alou in a Giants uniform though....
November 10, 200421 yr I honestly think if the Giants get a bullpen for the 2005 season, including a proven closer, they will be the team to beat... They only had 10 runs less than St. Louis all season. Their offense wasn't the problem.. The starting pitching carried them through the end as well. The problem was the bullpen.. I truly believe if they keep the offense as is, the starting rotation as is (Schmidt, Tomko, Lowry, Rueter, and J. Williams), but get a real bullpen.. .they will be unstoppable.
November 10, 200421 yr They don't have anyone that puts up All Star numbers. J.T Snow had a great year. He hit around .330... Other than that, they have professional guys that know how to score a run and drive them in.. Guys like Ray Durham, Marquis Grissom, Edgardo Alfonzo, and A.J Pierzynski... Even Deivi Cruz and Pedro Feliz produced this past year. Their entire lineup doesn't strike out very much either. That sometimes means a lot of double plays, but they put the ball in play.

November 10, 200421 yr I just don't see it happening. If he came over, he'd have to play RF and he's not a right fielder. He doesn't have the arm and his old legs would have a hard time at SBC Park... Grissom moving over to right moves another old man, but he's used to playing Center Field, so he can cover a lot more ground.... Don't get me wrong... I would love to see Alou end his career in San Francisco. I think his offense would be a huge boost to an already solid lineup.
