November 28, 200421 yr Man I hope we land Tenn in the Cap1 ...they could have easily lost to Vandy and Kentucky. Auburn will win by atleast 3 touchdowns.

November 28, 200421 yr I expect South Carolina to win the SEC next season (unless UF get's Cal's coach or Urban Meyer).

November 28, 200421 yr Author I'm just bitter because the Gators lose all the close games, while Tennessee finds a way to win. Oh well.

November 29, 200421 yr South Carolina has no shot at winning the SEC next year. Florida, Tennessee, Georgia, and LSU will all destroy them. Auburn will have a down year.
November 29, 200421 yr why does SC have no shot? Let's take a look back to 1989...the last year before Spurrier came. They blew. They were terrible. I remember going and watching them lose to Memphis State (now called Memphis Univ.). They were horrible. AND THEY HAD EMMITT SMITH! They were also on probation. Spurrier comes, and the VERY NEXT SEASON (1990), they have the best record in the SEC and would have won the SEC Championship except for the fact that they were still on probation. The season after that, they DO win the SEC Championship (1st year without being on probation under Spurrier). In 1989, Shane Matthews was the 5th string QB. In 1990 he started for them, and in 91 was a Heisman candidate. Now let's look at the 2004 Gamecocks and how they compare with the 1989 Gators. They had a winning record, and were bowl eligible. They have a lot of talent and a solid running game. Essentially: 2004 USC > 1989 Gators. I say Spurrier has a lot more to work with next season. And for those who don't know who'll be QB...he'll find someone. I suspect Syvelle will not be the QB (transfer? or move to WR). If Spurrier can take a 5th string QB on a terrible team and turn him into a Heisman candidate, I'm sure he can find someone for USC. They will do VERY will next season.
November 29, 200421 yr It amazes me that Spurrier is so anti-mobile QB and puts those human statues with marginal arms back there all the time. Granted, they're usually good enough, but when they get pressured they fold like a lawn chair.
November 29, 200421 yr Author South Carolina will compete for the east, but I think the Gators or Vols win it next year.

Granted, they're usually good enough, but when they get pressured they fold like a lawn chair. 623000[/snapback] he doesn't mind a mobile QB (Rex Grossman was definitely mobile)....he doesn't want a "run 1st, pass 2nd" QB (like Syvelle Newton). If they're that athletic, they can find a better place on the field (i.e. Reche Caldwell).
December 1, 200421 yr The difference is that Florida has a huge advantage in recruiting over SC. Florida has the most high school football talent in the nation. There is a reason why Spurrier wanted to go back to Florida. He knew he had it great there but the Florida AD didn't want him back because he is in love with Urban.
December 1, 200421 yr well, thank you for your "insider tip" as to why Spurrier was not signed at Florida. Nevermind the fact that Spurrier and UF have both admitted to talking to each other in an effort to work out some kind of deal. The fact that Florida has a clear advantage in recruiting may be so. But the fact remains: Spurrier turned the team around instantly. To turn a team around the 1st year you are there proves that recruiting was not an issue at all (at least that 1st year). Spurrier did not sign a significant amount of player the winter and spring of 1990. They were on probation. They had limited scholarships! Not to mention the fact that for one to say that Spurrier's Florida recruits directly affected the IMMEDIATE turnaround of UF implies that true freshman were playing in 1990 and were the cause for the turnaround. The fact is: He took Galen Hall's talent (yes, they had talent, but the 2004 USC team has more than that team) from the 89 crappy season and turned them into a winner overnight.
