Marlins sign reliever Todd Jones

Another mediocre signing in the process of building a mediocre team.

Ridiculous. You want All-Star, franchise-type talents? Our team has three of them. Their names are A.J. Burnett, Josh Beckett and Miguel Cabrera. If they play to their abilities, we are not a mediocre team. Why bring in outside elite talent, which has not been the most successful personnel strategy lately, when you have that kind of talent underperforming on your own team? Cabrera's fine and is on track to improve, Burnett's problems are largely rust and Beckett is a mystery. Our bullpen is one of the hardest throwing in the NL now, and it would be hell if our top starters are eating up innings.

A.J. Burnett, Josh Beckett and Miguel Cabrera.

Not Mike Lowell :o

Someone is on the chronic. I would think Lowell is more of an allstar since he is a proven winner on a yearly basis unlike Josh.

I agree with DMoney...

Lowell is a great player and definitely one to build around, but I think he still has something to prove too. He needs to prove that he can last an entire season with consistency. He has developed a reputation of being a different player beginning August 1st. Last season, he started even earlier... I like Lowell. He's one of my favorite Marlins, but he's gotta work on that...

I like the deal. Cheap one-year contract for a good pitcher.

The 5 years Jone has played in a pitcher's park he put up good numbers. Although his three year record isn't great, he's maintained good K rates despite not being a flyball pitcher.

PhishPhan, I agree on Lowell. The difference between Lowell and guys like Burnett, Beckett and Cabrera is what they have yet to show us. I'm already banking on Lowell's All-Star numbers, but the 20 wins from Josh and AJ and the Triple Crown contention for Migs is still potential. We should be more concerned about getting that then looking elsewhere, depleting our farm system and cash supply and maybe getting disappointing results.

Josh is in the "action" pick?

Yeah, I thought it was just me at first... But then I took a closer look and noticed it was Beckett.... Who approves this crap? This is their official website and they can't even match action picks with the actual players.

The best part is, that's been like that for months. I remember noticing that when I was putiting together a sig about the bullpen back in March.

works for me. enough teeny-boppers coming out of the bullpen already.

Same here... I feel much better having veterans like Alfonseca and Jones coming out of the bullpen vs experimenting with unproven guys like Gracesqui, Wayne, Bump, etc....
