Jones is set to 5-6 mil because he is arbitration eligible. Essentially, these two are the same player. Both have similar career numbers, and the 3 year progression of both has their stats (AVG, OPS, etc) declining over the last 3 years. Why in the world would the Marlins want to pay an extra mil for Jones when they have the same type of player in Juan Encarnacion? Definitely not because he is the "ticket to the World Series." For 4.5-6 million, both teams could do better than these overpriced RF's who don't get on base or hit well enough.

December 10, 200421 yr Anway before this thread got hijacked... Todd Jones might not be that bad. I was a critic as soon as I saw this signing but it looks like he did have a pretty decent year with Cinci before getting moved to Coors East. Also, he has very good numbers against the NL East. So maybe this is a pretty good signing.
