December 13, 200421 yr Waiting game: Arizona is still waiting for David Dellucci to decide between the Diamondbacks, Rangers and Marlins. Dellucci's agent, Gregg Clifton, said Sunday that the Marlins adjusted their offer. That, though, won't cause the D-Backs to follow suit. "We have done what we can do on that and Gregg knows that," Garagiola said. "We made the offer we can make, we'd love to have him, but he will decide in his own good time."
December 13, 200421 yr Why? Dellucci sucks when he isn't playing in a Coors-type atmosphere. What a waste of space.
December 13, 200421 yr Dellucci is a great clubhouse presence. I remember hearing Buck Showalter in an interview last season talking about the intangibles this guy brings to a team. That is not in numbers and would be great in a 4th OF. As far as playing time, it seems possible that Encarnacion may get dumped opening some AB's for him.
December 13, 200421 yr Delucci's stats are inflated, and it seems like the marls would consider him the lefthanded bat that they need, which would not be a great move, since delucci is not the answer to the marls offense woes.
December 15, 200421 yr Dellucci is a great clubhouse presence. Oh, GEEZ! The "clubhouse presence" argument. When you have to resort to that argument to defend a player, then he's not someone you should get into a bidding war over.
December 15, 200421 yr I remember in 1993 when they said PPS and Coors were going to make pitchers die for years to come because so many runs were scored in them. Then the Marlins pitchers learned how to use the Bermuda Triangle and the Marlins CF learned how to play it. :plain

The Marlins will feel the losses of Mike Redmond and Mike Mordecai, trust me.... If we can get a guy with a great attitude, like Dellucci, I say do it.

Thank goodness you're not running the Marlins. I'll take a team full of clubhouse cancers like A-Rod, Sheffield, and Kevin Brown over the clubhouse presence team of Mike Mordecai and Mike Redmond.
December 15, 200421 yr I'm amazed at the armchair GM's who thinks he "sucks" when any number of teams have or are attempting to sign him. Obviously you guys are better at evaluating talent than people who have spent the lives in and around the game and are paid handsomely to make these decisions.

Thank goodness, you are the one not running the team. Now don't get me wrong. I'm not saying that I would take a 25 man roster of nice guys over a 25 man roster of proven All-Stars. I'm just saying, when you have to play 162 games with each other, And having to be together for so long... You need a few guys like Dellucci, Mordecai, and Redmond around... If you have a 25 man roster, comprised solely of your "Clubhouse Cancer Squad", it'll be a long season and many of them would not make it out alive.
