Marlins Champs in 08'?

Featured Replies

we got thosse championships because we had one of the best farm systems in baseball

unless we get george steinbrenner, we're just going to have to rely on the talent we do have in the minors, and resigning who we have

if we're gonna win in 2008, we're gonna win before then too

Just playin' around, for those who are in a serious mood... I think with one more started (quality of Becks, AJ, Willis, and Leiter, not Valdez) and Mota closing we have a good chance for a Post season run in 06'. Expecially with the Braves losing Wright, and Drew, and the Phillies losing top starters..

yeah, thats why i'm a yankee hater... I like the Farm System, I like raising players, them having a career with the team, not buying other teams stars...

can't forget the addition of tim hudson for the bravos...

offense is certainly lookin a lot weaker tho

and they're the braves

"and they're the braves"

yeah.. Every year they say, breaves are out of 1st... Of corse we get our hopes up, braves finish 30 games over.. lol

Depends when I next go on a cruise. My cruise years are just magic. 1997 and 2003. My birthday is also a good day. May 11, 1996 = No hitter by Al Leiter. May 11, 2003 = Jack McKeon as the manager.

My birthday has also been a good day :D

It was the day of Game 6 in the First Series in 1997, and the clinching day of Game 6 in the Second Series in 2003.

When its your B-day? they didnt play the day of my Birthday but they won the day before and won the WS the day after in 2003. And in 1997 i was to small to remember. I know I watch the games with my dad and my brother, and my cousins I think. But i dont remember the dates.Like I said i was to small.

Wasn't 2003 the 11th season, therefore making 2008 the 16th season?

Well yes, 2003 was the 10th year after 1993, but it was the 11th season of play.

New ballpark too would be nice in 2008.

Somehow I don't see us getting a ballpark. I really hope we do. But I dont see it coming...Maybe Loria should think of the slogan "If you build it they will come" for once. :D

Perhaps they're not counting the 1994 strike season?

2003 was tenth anniversary, not tenth year of play. It's every six years if you want to think up some elaborate Marlins championship scheme.

I never understood the whole 10 year anniversary either. I think they just tried to hype it up a little bit. Can't blame them for it...

Here are the seasons:

Season - Year

1 - 1993

2 - 1994

3 - 1995

4 - 1996

5 - 1997

6 - 1998

7 - 1999

8 - 2000

9 - 2001

10 - 2002

11 - 2003

12 - 2004

So, 2002 was really the 10 year Anniversary for the Marlins.

No, the Marlins were right, 2003 was the tenth anniversary of the first season...Just like if you were married in 1993, then you would celebrate your 10th anniversary of your marraige, even though you were entering your 11th year of marriage...

I see where you're going, but not really...

I was married on November 2nd, 2002. So, November 2nd, 2012 will be my 10 year anniversary, because my first year of marriage would have completed on November 2nd, 2003..

The Marlins began their first season in 1993 and ended their first season in 1993, meaning that their first year was complete before 94.. The listing of seasons I put up there explains it all....

If this were basketball, I'd understand because it spans both years, but since baseball is played all within the same year, it doesn't make sense. They advertised the entire season as their 10th anniversary. Your point would only be logical if they were saying that April 5th, 2003 was the 10 year anniversary..which kinda makes sense..

This is all so confusing.. I have a headache now.

Think of it this way. When you're born, you are 0 years old. It's your first year of life, but you aren't one until you're next birthday. Seasonswise, it was #11. But it was the 10th anniversary of the first Opening Day. 2012 will be your tenth year anniversary, but it won't be your tenth anniversary. See what I mean?

Exactly... Had they promoted Opening Day as the 10 year anniversary, fine. But they tried to promote the whole season, which wasn't the case.

sure, but every pro team celebrates their 5th/10th/whatever season, not anniversary

the only reason the marlins celebrated the anniversary was because loria and co. bought the fish just before the 2002 season, meaning they had no time to create a 10th season logo and get them on the jerseys in time

:lol That's cool. The Marlins win the WS every 5 years. Nice cool stat. I never viewed it that way. It'll be really funny if the Marlins win the WS in 2008. Anyways, I think the Marlins have a good chance at winning the WS in one of the upcoming years.

I can see that point of view. The season meant something, it was just promoted improperly. Plus, it's alot easier to make the 1993-2003 ten year connection for people than 1993-2002 ten season connection. The latter requires thinking.
