Crazy idea...

Bubba Trammel

The Yankees want to get out of Trammel's contract and have placed him on the restircted list. If we could sign him cheaply, he could be a good bat off the bench. I believe he is even left-handed. What do you think?

He is old, but he was good back in the day. Maybe he can give us some of that Darren Daulton magic. I like it.

He and Yanks are having disagreements over playing time and being in the lineup, so he didn't report one day and they put him on the restricted.

While we are at it we could unfreeze Ted Williams too. He would provide some pop off the bench.

You seem to be really sold on this guy.

Because he does well in the NL and could be the bat we need. He can hit the ball a mile in a place like Jack Murphy Stadium which is alot like Pro Player. He would be the big bat we need, btw he is a righty, but he does well in the power dept. along with driving in runs.

He sucks in the AL.

Juanky he's 31, what are you talking about? Yeah Cape he's a righty too.

Never been real impressed with him personally.

i've never been really impresse with him either. but a cat who's hit over 20 homers in just over 400 at bats has some decent pop i wouldn't mind having him come off the bench.

I think we have an excellent bench...Banks and Castro for power bats...Mordy, Foxy for versatility...and Red for a solid contact hitter....its our best bench since 97'

i'll admit he'd be a definate upgrade to what we have on the bench.

We dont have the money for this kind of luxury.

The marlins could sign him to a minor league deal.

ala BoSox and Gabe Kapler.

He is a good hitter in the NL because he gets to face the pitchers that throw it the way he likes it. He is a very powerful and solid hitter.

His hitting and fielding stats aren't bad and he is making $2,500,000 with the Yankees, but if they get out of his contract he will be an unrestricted free agent and we can sign him like the Red Sox did to Kapler for a Minor League contract, bring him up, and pay him the league minimum.

Stats Inc. Scouting Report

Scouting Report

2002 Season

Despite a strong showing in 2001, Bubba Trammell was consigned to a platoon role when last season began. But when Phil Nevin went down with a broken arm, Ryan Klesko moved back to first base and Trammell became the everyday right fielder. Unfortunately, Trammell was slumping badly at the time, and the extra playing time only served to dig him deeper into the hole. While a strong June brought him back to respectability, July trade rumors coincided with another bad slump. Once the deadline passed, he got hot again, until the September callups cut into his playing time.

Hitting

Trammell likes the ball middle-in and will tomahawk high, inside fastballs out of the park. He covers the plate pretty well and can drive the ball to all fields, although his home run power is from left to center field. He has a good batting eye for someone with his power, but he can be coaxed into swinging at balls low and outside.

Baserunning & Defense

Trammell is not fleet afoot, so he's pretty much a station-to-station runner and is no threat to steal. Surprisingly, he grounds into very few double plays. Although his reads and route running have improved, his lack of foot speed still limits his outfield range to about average. His arm is average, but he makes accurate throws and never misses the cutoff.

If we could acquire him without dealing any prospects and paying the league minimum (which we gave away to f'ing Gerald Williams...) I am up for it. If he reverts to his earlier form (with the D Rays), he will be well worth it. I think it is a good suggestion Cape..

I wouldnt mind Bubba of the bench :mischief2 ...

although im getting to like Hollandsworth as a bench player...he's doing pretty well how we're playing him right now...

but as jonnylyons said, if we dont have to deal any prospects...why not?

He was placed on the Restricted list by the Yankees July 1st. How long would it take them to get out of his contract? 30 days?

Juanky he's 31, what are you talking about? Yeah Cape he's a righty too.

Never been real impressed with him personally.

Yeah, I noticed now. Was thinking of Alan :banghead

There are bigger fish to fry then getting another bat for the bench. If they feel the inate desire to trade again, it should be to improve the starting nine, not to add another pine-jockey to the cast of thousands who sit on the bench and rarely play as it is now. H-Worth, Castro, Redmond, Banks etc... That's more than enough quality bats on the bench.

There are more significant areas to address... Like dumping D. Lee for a decent veteran 1B bat, which kills 2 birds ( D. Lee's lack of RISP and his salary) with one stone. Or go out and get a good OF and send Cabrera down, or go get another bullpen arm.
