February 24, 200521 yr Author It appears that FGCU only offers 4 credits for some courses that FSU gives 5 for. This is going to be tricky. 694436 I've never heard of a 5-credit course... 694481 Neither did I until I met FSU's PHY 2048C, MAC 2313, and PHY 2049C
February 24, 200521 yr Author Here is what FGCU offers for its A.A. degree... http://enrollment.fgcu.edu/advising/aainfo.htm FGCU has some of the same courses in terms of the course ID numbers, but some things don't lineup as they should.

If they are they are usually set up as 3 hours class/lecture and 2 hours of lab, or 4 hours class/lecture and 1 hour of lab. They sound like physical science classes so you will likely be in the 3/2 format. A communtity college my consider the 2 hour lab as worth only 1 credit so it would be in a 3/1 format. Going to the school that has a top 5 rated program in your field of study is an excellent idea. I wanted to study at UM, but wound up splitting time at Cal (baseball scholarship) and ASU (injury made me ineligible for scholarship, and ASU has top-five rated Architectural Engineering program).

However, FGCU has an Analytic Geometry class (MAC 2157 - Analytic Geom with Trig) seperate that is worth 3 credits. That should fill-in the hole left by MAC 2313. (MAC 2313 is 4 credits at FGCU, 5 at FSU) FGCU offers PHY 2053C - College Physics w/Lab I - 4 credit(s) and PHY 2054C - College Physics w/Lab II - 4 credit(s) as well. That may help fill-in the gap.

You're smart for such a little guy :notworthy 694567 If he was really smart...he would be going to the U. If your plans are to stay in South Florida after graduation the reputation of the University of Miami will far outweigh FSU and Florida Tech...IMHO. Why aren't you considering some out of state schools? You should enjoy the experience of another part of the country...you should consider schools in Boston, DC, NY or Chicago. With your strong academic background have you considered the Ivies???

UM also costs alot more than FSU or Florida Tech and isn't as high a Meteorology school. FSU has the best program out of the three, that is a known. An employee will respect FSU the most in this field. As for out-of-state, Georgia Tech has gotten my interest as well, but I must wait until they offer me a financial package in order for them to get seriously into the race. Same goes for any other out-of-state schools. I also have a problem with colder climates as I have had pneumonia in the past twice and am at risk.

I want to go to the U, but I'll be going to UCF or FSU next year because my parents won't pay for Miami. And the reputation of UM won't necessarily outweigh FSU in this market. It all depends what type of career you follow.
February 24, 200521 yr okay, first of all, i dont think i've ever heard anyone call it "florida tech." i know it as FIT. second of all, you've got more than a year to make a decision. heavens, you're not even old enough to start applying to college yet. it's not like you're mulling over acceptance letters here. and lastly, if you're willing to pay private school tuition to go to FIT, you really ought to consider applying to out-of-state schools next year when you start doing your applications. i don't know anything about meteorology programs, but imo there's no reason to pay big money to go to an in-state school.

February 24, 200521 yr Cape, I highly recommend going to community college for a year, maybe two, before heading to a big school. It makes the transition smoother, making YOU less likely to fail by going straight to a big school. It saves a lot of money, making YOU less in debt when you're through with your education and have absurd amounts of loans to pay off. Oh, and you graduate with the exact same god damn diploma. 694010 yeah, i'd recommend that route if you don't want any friends when you get to the big school. and if you don't want your GPA for your easy classes (fresh & soph) to count toward your university GPA. and if you want to get gipped of a few transfer credits. and if you want to have a rough time finding faculty members who know you well enough to write you rec letters. so yeah, i don't recommend that at all. on a side note dodge, do you go to NOVA? a buddy of mine is finishing her bachelors at UVA this semester after having done her first two years at nova.

February 24, 200521 yr Author I have no issue with switching schools as long as my credits count towards what I want. I have switched high schools (Flanagan in 8th grade, Mariner starting at 10th) and middle schools (From Silver Palms' 6th grade center to Silver Trail for 7th). I also carry almost all honors/AP.

(again, i'm clueless re: meteorology programs)
February 25, 200521 yr Author Grad School (for the Masters) is offered by FSU. The A.A. would be 2 years at FGCU or Edison and then the final 2 years to get the B.S. Then I go to undergrad at FSU if I so choose.
February 25, 200521 yr Trust me when I tell you that the academic reputation of UM and UF outweighs FSU. If you intened to stay in the South...I would highly recommend Georgia Tech over FSU & FIT...this would be a no brainer IMO. Other outstanding schools in the South include Rice, Emory, Vanderbilt, Tulane, Duke, North Carolina and UVA. Try not to be so narrow minded and explore your options...get out of Florida if you can...it's only four years and you can always come back.

The odds of you sticking with meteorology are slim...most people end up changing as they grow older...you might think there is no chance of this but the probability is very high. FSU, PSU and OU are not very impressive compared to the other schools I had previously mentioned. Do you have a college placement advisor? Who is guiding you through this process???
