March 2, 200521 yr Alex Gonzalez - Marlins - Gonzalez is at least as valuable as Cristian Guzman, who received $16.8 million over four years from the Nationals. He?s the better defender of the two, and his 20-homer power will appeal to teams, even though he gets on base only about 29 percent of the time. The Marlins will probably re-sign him. A.J. Burnett - Marlins - Since Tim Hudson signed a four-year contract to stay with Atlanta, Burnett projects as the best starter available. He just needs to make 30 starts this season and he?ll be looking at earning more than $10 million per year as a free agent. I doubt he?ll be staying with the Marlins.

If they were to deal him I think they would have done it this offseason when they could have gotten a Vazquez-esque pitcher to replace him.

March 2, 200521 yr The organization could come up with two quality starters by next year. The Carolina quintet and Taylor Tankersley could be ready. And there's Bump/Howard/Wayne/Hutch and the bunch whose shot is fading. Aside from Andino, who I don't think anyone would call close to ready, and Josh Wilson there's not much to replace Gonzalez. (Hopefully we flame out by mid-July, trade Burnett for some top prospects, and roar back into the race and win the World Series anyway. )
