March 2, 200521 yr Hey everyone, I had a great time at the Marlins Canes game, just wanted to report a few of my highlights: 1. As I walk in the gate towards my seats I see a guy that looks quite familiar walking with a hot dog. It's Peter Gammons. As I walk by I say, hey Mr. Gammons. He shook my hand. Quite a thrill for me, this guy may have the best job in the world as far as im concerned. 2. Juan Pierre and Grandpa Jack: These guys spent so much time signing autographs. It was a pleasure to see players that realize what is important to the game. I personally dont care about autographs, but for a lot of kids, it is their favorite parts of the game. 3. Joe Dilon - This guy had a great game and deserves it. Certainly somebody I want to see on the big league roster. The 3 run jack he belted over the left field wall was hammered. This guy has what it takes. You need look no further than how he has capitalized in every opportunity. 4. ITS BASEBALL SEASON......well worth the wait.

March 2, 200521 yr Dillon has a great attitude, works hard, isn't a whiner (like Nunez) and will be thrilled to contribute to the team. If he's good enough, we can give Mikey more days off this year and have Joe step in for him so that Mikey doesn't go on his annual second half slump. Joe Dillon is a straight up baller. I'll be very happy if he succeeds.
March 2, 200521 yr Two HR's in two days ain't too shabby. I posted accolades to him months ago. His come-back story is almost Hollywood. I'm rooting for him and hope to see him tomorrow, 3/3, vs Orioles.
March 2, 200521 yr Is there room to keep Dillon, Harris and Haggerty on this roster? Dillon is certainly making a case for himself...truly an inspirational story. I think he could be an ideal role player...happy to be in the bigs and no complaints about regular action...can't see his game improving much in AAA - as opposed to JWillingham who can use the AB's and the chance to work on his defense.
March 2, 200521 yr I'm curious what position Dillon played and how well did he do defensively? Anyone able to comment?
March 2, 200521 yr I'm curious what position Dillon played and how well did he do defensively? Anyone able to comment? 699783 He played 3rd base and made no errors. I don't know how many chances he had, though. From what I understand, his defense is fine... and now his hitting is coming around. GO JOE!!!! :notworthy
March 2, 200521 yr i believe they also put him out in left field a little, but not 100% sure 699839 They did for the last couple innings
March 2, 200521 yr My dad said he saw Gammons before today's game in Vero Beach. He must be following the fish around.

Spooneybarger's scheduled to begin the year in AAA. Did I miss anyone? If not, that's 21. So there will be 4 spots available. One will have to be able to play catcher. Also, Dillon does have less to learn at the minor league level than Willingham or Wilson and others, but I don't think they has much to learn at that level either. Willingham has dominated AA. Wilson has done very well at AA. AAA is a step down in many peoples others' opinions, atleast when it comes to pitching talent, and is played in ballparks that are completly opposite of Pro Player. They're in a spot where the big league club doesn't know what to do with them. If they were given a spot of the major league roster, they could learn from Paul LoDuca, Jeff Conine and Mike Lowell. They could find his niche. The club could see what they have before making some tough personnel decisions. There's some benefit of collecting 100 at bats against major league talent that might rival playing full-time against weaker competition. Just hope they stay out of hotel rooms with prostitutes or whoever it was with Ramon Castro.
