Career Numbers

-------------Brees | Vick---------------

9,089 :Yards (Combined): 8842

61.3 :Completion %: 53.6

59 :TDs (Combined): 49

83.2 :Rating: 77

This is interesting because the Charges trade the pick for Vick to the Chargers. In that draf the Chargers got Ladanian Tomlinson AND Brees.

Im thinking right now...the Chargers have come out ahead.

Thoughts?

Vick has 2 playoff appearances. Pretty sure that LT/Brees combo only has 1.

Id argue that Vick has had more around him as well up to this season.

2 players is > 1

Its kind of like comparing apples to oranges with those numbers. Those numbers do not take into account the number of game changing plays Vick has actually made such as the game against the Vikings two years ago. Vick has far less offensive talent than Brees has around him and Vick has been more successful. Before this year Brees was considered a bust. The emergence of Antonio Gates has been huge as has been the arrival of Keenan McCardell giving him another weapon. Also, as you said the life span of a RB is much shorter. Do you think within a few years, if the Chargers do not win a SB with Tomlinson, then they still got the better end of the deal? I can tell you as far as ticket sales, the Falcons are way ahead with Vick than the Chargers with Tomlinson and Brees as well.

If Vick couldn't run like he can, he wouldn't even be on a practice squad right now because he isn't accurate to the least.

But he can so who cares. Its basically like saying if the queen had balls she would be the kind. Same concept, worthless argument.

Let Brees have a few more good seasons before he is anointed the next Montana.

Where was that even proposed? This was about the draft comparison wnad who got better value.

You cant compare who got the better value right now because one guy had one really good season(hence drastically altering his career numbers). Thats plain short sighted. People are all over Brees and down on Vick because Brees had one great season. Heck, SD thought so lowly of Brees that they wasted a first rounder on him. Before this season, people picked Vick. If Brees cant stay consistent, people will go back to Vick. Before this season, Atlanta got the better end of the deal even with Tomlison because QB>RB and Brees was a joke. Who knows which direction he goes. Yes if he stays outstanding, the Falcons got ripped. But we dont know that yet.

It never ceases to amaze me how hindsight is created by NFL fans who jump all over the hot player.

Well put. Passion is a "know-it-all" who knows nothing. You stated the facts very well. Additionally, Vick did not start his rookie year and missed most of another season, so his "career" numbers are skewed somwhat and the passing numbers do not take his running ability into account. Also, I seem to remember Vick's team getting further in the playoffs this year with less talent around him.

That's not very nice. :thumbdown

The Falcons have more talent than the Chargers, no doubt about it.

On offense, the Chargers offense has the talent to run circles around the Falcons. Superior line, receivers and backs.

Defense the Falcons are better, but not all that much.

The weapons Brees has compare to Vick to use is ridiculous.

Also, just look at what happend to the Falcons when Vick went down one year and returned the next.

And youre absolutely right when you said the number dont reflect the other intangibles of Vick. The guy changes defensive schemes. He requires that a LB shadow him. Minus Vick, do the other offensive players on that team contribute what they do?
