Wayne Huizenga appears to have changed his mind on the possibility of the Marlins remaining at Dolphins Stadium if they can't procure their own stadium in Miami. Huizenga had said he wanted the Marlins out of the facility by the time their lease expired in 2010 so he could promote other stadium events and correct the football field problems that were happening during baseball season when an infield was in place. "Let's say for some reason or another they didn't get their thing done and they wanted to stay. OK, fine. That's not the end of the world as long as we can make the improvements we need to make and work out some of the issues," said Huizenga, who hopes to convert Dolphins Stadium into a permanent Super Bowl facility. "But I do think they'll get their building. "We're not against the Marlins staying on a long-term basis, but what we're against are the problems with the field and all that kind of stuff. A lot of those problems go away if you have a roof. You don't have to worry about the mud." Huizenga said a retractable roof at Dolphins Stadium is a more likely option if the franchise isn't given the NFL's blessing to build a "supersite" for its championship game. "There is some discussion that in South Florida with Super Bowls it might be nice to have an open stadium," said Huizenga, whose stadium will host Super Bowl XLI in February 2007. "I wouldn't argue with that."

Apparently he realized that the threat of eviction was actually helping them, so he took it back before the state voted on the rebate. The article almost makes it sound like generosity on his part ("softens stance"); but in actuality, the TIMING of the announcement is key, and Wayne knew it.
March 25, 200521 yr Huizinga knows that of the Marlins dont get a stadium he cant just kick the Marlins out. The courts would issue a stay, so the Marlins werent evicted. I think that Huizinga really wants the Marlins to get a stadium. That way he can do what he wants. This means that his lobbyists arent in Tally trying to kill the deal.
