Harold Reynolds said Smoltz was "overthrowing," causing him to lose control and make some mistakes. If he was "overthrowing" when his pitches were hitting 93 and he decides to pull back a little bit, what will hitters do with 90 mph fastballs? I know the guy can throw it 98 if he has to, but he doesn't have the endurance to do that for longer than two innings anymore. I don't think Smoltz will have an ERA of 6 or anything, but I think if he keeps his ERA under 3.50 I would be surprised.
