I was that Victor Martinez was signed... anyway *plugs site*

MaverickBall.com(it isnt a totally shameless plug, I did a tiny piece on Cabs and the Fish there, along with Roster Rules on arbitration, rule V, etc...

the bottom line is we need to sign Cabs now, and not wait, there's no other way to put it

:mischief

I hope so. His career track thus far is eerily similiar to notable players already in the Hall of Fame.

Wouldn't surprise me if they have. Wouldn't surprise me in the least if they have already had discussions with Cabs or Beckett about signing a new contract now rather when their value could skyrocket.

It would be too bad if we couldnt get a deal done, and started going to arbitration with him

I don't think you'll see anything along these lines until the stadium deal is finalized...until then all bets are off.

Keep your fingers crossed...the biggest battle is not on the field...it is taking place in Tallahassee.

It's a shame too.... his signing might be as important or more important that the stadium

The amount of cash that Cabs would get on the open market is just unbelievable.

Cabs would still see the open market, if the Marlins were to sign him long term it would probably be just for the amount of years he still is eligible for arbitration plus an option for the year after that or something like that.

But yes we do need to sign him to a 5 year 20 mil deal or something like that. In the long run it would probably save some money too.

He will be at the end of this year, Das.

By the way, arbitration prices are getting ridiculous. An arbitrator is supposed to make his decision based on the salaries of players of similar age or major league tenure. Over the past few years it seems like arbitrators are basing their figures against the entire free agent class.

I want to say it was Kyle Lohse who got a $2mil raise for a 5era+

He will be at the end of this year, Das.

then look for this issue to begin being addressed this offseason in detail.

and the entire salary structure of baseball is out in some other galaxy, why should arbitration be different.
