Alex is on a prolonged slump. Miguel has played 25 games straight and reading between the lines I get the impression he's having some trouble adjusting to the grind of major league play. I've thought for a while that with him here, and I don't think he should be sent down, his role in 2003 would be as a utility player.

 

Alex has played extraordinarily well this season, far above my expectations, but recently he's slumping. In the spring there was a plan to rest Pudge every few days (which went out the window when he starting .300 again - lol). Perhaps we'll see Cabs in a supersub role - platooning in left, subbing for Lowell and now maybe for Gonzo as well. Getting 12-14 at bats a week. I think Alex has just run out of gas. Maybe if he plays five days a week for August he can be there to contribute in September. The same thing goes for Cabs.

 

Miguel was a shortstop throughout most of his minor league stay. At the time and subsequently it was said he had "outgrown" the shortstop position, meaning his size was lowering his ceiling as a major league prospect. So they moved him to the corner. The kid is so good with a glove he could play most any position. I would assume most of you would agree that defensively Cabs' play has been super. It's going to be a pleasure watching him play here and turn into a superstar right before our eyes.

 

Cabs also lit a fire under Hollandsworth's butt, he now appears to take every at bat, every play in the outfield, every moment on the bases, as a life or death event. He should. It is.

 

As I said I don't want to send Cabs down, I think he's the best thing since sliced bread, let's use him at short as well and give him enough at bats to learn. He makes Andy Fox absolutely expendable in my opinion and if the roster gets tight because of a trade, I think its Fox to go instead of Cabs being sent down.

And we can't use a 20 yr. old rookie on the bench. He needs to go down to AAA so he can play everyday.

A-gon hit the ball pretty well last night, and for the past couple of days he has been hitting the ball hard, just right at people most of the time, leave him in there, he will come around, cabs is slumping and is not the answer for this super sub role your talking about, cabs will now begin to platoon at LF and give lowell a rest, not a-gon, fox is there to give a-gon a breather.....

thatw was the crux of my post they BOTH need less playing time. and btw the way I wasn't taking anything away from Gonzo, he's made a ton of great plays this year. but historically Alex has faded in the second half and this year we're going to need him right through sept if we're really going to make a run at it.

If Sea Bass needs a break put Fox in for a game or two. As bas as Cabrera is playing I like Fox as the better alternative right now.

I for one am curious how well he plays that position, considering how ell he plays third and how quickly he learned leftfield.

I am curious to see when he is going to learn how to hit MLB pitching consistently. I don't care how he plays at 3B, LF or SS. Heck, I'm not even interested to see how well he would do as a hot dog vendor either!

I have to say Fishy, oops I slipped, Mr. FiletO'Fish, I wouldn't mind seeing more consistency from the kid's bat too. I guess I'm just innately a curious individual.

Isn't Cabs batting something like .330 with players in scoring position?

 

Don't look at BA, the kid is slumping but he has done some amazing things for us.

 

We need clutch hitting now more than ever. . . Specialy at the bottom of the order , since Pudge is batting 3d

he is hitting in the .220s overall.

 

 

 

i wouldnt mind him up as a 20 year old playing whereever......IF he were hitting at least .250

 

 

 

.220 will not cut it on ANY legit contender, except POSSIBLY behind the plate in this day and age.

in addition, I hope the FO doesn't pull another Urbina deal to get a LF replacement. We have to deal with reality after this season. And that reality is that we need good prospect for the future, we aren't going to be building a team on FAs.

Cabs going to AAA will do nothing for him but pad his batting stats. The PCL is a hitters' league. The only way he is going to get used to MLB pitching is to have him face MLB pitching. AAA will not help him get adjusted to better pitching! There is a reason pitchers like Willis and Beckett skip AAA and jump straight up to the majors.

 

Cabs will bat .350-.375 in AAA...then what? Wait till next year so he can then get himself adjusted to MLB pitching?

 

We all agree that he is having a hard time facing MLB pitching....we can have him adjust this year (and be much better come next season), or we can send him down to AAA, and have him learn next season (a waste of a good portion of next season).
