Twins choose a new home

The ballpark, which would sit on the Rapid Park lot in the Warehouse District of downtown Minneapolis, two blocks northwest of Target Center, would cost $360 million without the roof, according to several sources.

The Twins would pay $125 million up front, or slightly more than a third of the cost. That is a departure from recent years, when the Twins offered only annual rent.

I realize it means nothing at this point but I'm just putting it out there to inform those of you who are interested in this unending story.

If there is a team that needs a new ballpark, it's the Twins.

The Metrodome is a horrific baseball facility.

Well gee, thanks.

yeah .. from that picture the plate would be on the western part of the stadium with the giant roof over it

not sure if I like the roof design, but the rest of the park looks nice

would be a good area for a stadium as well ... not too much in that area, but being next to the wharehouse district and e-block would provide much fun before/after the game

also, the metrodome isn't that bad as far as watching a game ... the seats aren't angled the best and it is weird being inside .. but it's workable

(probably the worst stadium i've been to, but workable)

If there is a team that needs a new ballpark, it's the Marlins.

Dolphin Stadium is a horrific baseball facility and Huizenga is horrible.

fixed.

Question:

How many here have been to the Metrodome?

I'm telling you, it's worse than Dolphins Stadium.

i've been to the dome, but not DS

i also spent a lot of time in the vet ... i think the vet was slightly better as far as watching the game

as far as the councourses, bathrooms and everything else, the metrodome is in much better shape than the vet was

an open air stadium near downtown will be sweet though

The concourse at the Metrodome was ok. The seating feels odd to me. You almost have to turn your body in many parts of the stadium. Plus, half the seats are pushed in and their is a plastic bag in right. The turf is also garbage. The acoustics are horrible. It's the worst facility in the majors (with exception of maybe the Trop).

So...any of you Marlins fans who said the Fish need a new stadium more than the Twins, have you ever been to the Metrodome?

DW, as stated above, the problem's not the stadium, it's the rent. Yes, the Twins would benefit greatly from a new stadium, but they can stay in HHH for a little while longer if they need to. There's a greater sense of urgency for us because Wayne Huizenga, Owner of DS, is choking the Marlins to death, and if they don't find an alternative venue within the next four years, they'll fold.

Again it's the out-of towners speaking about a subject they know nothing about.

First attendance now the stadium.

Blah, blah, blah, 2010, blah, blah, blah.

I know about the eviction stuff.

However, I still think the Twins need a new stadium more RIGHT NOW.

If this was the 2008 season, it would def be the Marlins.

Agreed. I do think the Twins need a new ballpark. Baseball is not meant to be played in that dump.

I just didn't think it was right to compare two different stadium situations.

It's fine to compare stadiums, just not what is going on outside the stadiums. I agree that the Marlins are in a stickier situation in terms of what is happening outside the actual facility. I never said to the contrary. That's why I was a little confused why I got 5+ replies on how the Marlins were in a worse stadium situation.

It's actually pretty enjoyable watching games at the Trop. The seats are comfortable, great seat angles, very unique, and the sounds of the crack of a bat or a ball popping in a glove are amplified times 10, it's great. If I was a player though, i'd probably hate it.
