The Fan
Ughhhh (from the sun-sentinel) The Dolphins didn't look far to find a free-agent quarterback after Sunday's draft. Brock Berlin, University of Miami starter for two seasons, was signed for a fourth-string role behind A.J. Feeley, Gus Frerotte and Sage Rosenfels. "It's nice to be in a place where I was already comfortable in the surroundings," Berlin said. "I just want to come in and compete and learn the offense as fast as I can." A 25-game starter for the Hurricanes after transferring from Florida, Berlin completed 58 percent of his passes but had almost as many turnovers (31) as touchdown throws (34). Berlin's draft stock was seemingly hurt by below-average height (6 feet) and a reported score of 13 on the 50-question Wonderlic intelligence test, lowest among quarterback prospects in this year's class. Berlin said one of the reasons he chose the Dolphins after feelers from other teams was coach Nick Saban. At Louisiana State, Saban tried recruiting Berlin, who already had chosen Florida. PhishPhan
Best move of the weekend for the Phins! :plain Now they need to go sign a couple WRs, because our depth there flat out stinks. But in all seriousness, I think Berlin could give Sage a run for that backup-backup spot.

The Fan
whatever, at least they didnt waste a pick on him now they have to focus on finding some receivers 754408 They signed Josh Davis out of Marshall as an UDFA. He is the NCAAs 2nd all-time receptions leader at 306. He is a shade under 6'1'' and weighs 191 with a 4.56/40 time. Isn't a homerun threat but is a very natural receiver. I would not be surprised to see him make the team. The Phins also signed Lionel Turner, a MLB from LSU whom Saban coached. 6'2'', 258 but slow at 4.9/40. Doubt he will make the team because of his lack of explosion, speed, quickness and agility but he does have a ton of size and power, can play all 3 LB positions as well as blitz and take on blockers. Not a deep threat, but a nice sized possesion reciever.

We signed Kay Jay Harris... good move. 754426 I would like to see him make the team as maybe a HB/FB type. I have trouble seeing him making it otherwise with Brown, Gordon, Morris and Minor all on the roster. Where did you see this news, however? Where did you see this news, however? 754436 Well Morris will be our #2 fb, even though he will do more out of the hb spot I think. I think Gordon is gaurenteed a spot. Minor is on a one year minimum deal I think, and is not much better than Kay Jay could be, no matter how bad Kay Jay is, and Kay Jay would come at about 1/3 of the cost for salary cap purposes. Then again we could trade Lamar for something maybe. And: ... Two local players signed as free agents last night. Chartiers Valley graduate Ray Ventrone, a safety from Villanova, signed with the Patriots; Kay-Jay Harris, a running back from West Virginia, signed with Miami. link Gah and Stovall signed with the Iggles. The Fan
Seattle Seahawks might have signed the most interesting NFL Draft prospect. Jesse Lumsden, RB out of McCaster University in Canada. 6'2'' 1/2 and weighs 226. He ran a 4.44 and 4.40/40 at his private workout. He ran for 41yds on 5 carries in the East-West Shrine Game against American competition (8.2ypc). He also broke the Canadian Interuniversity Sport single-season rushing mark with 1,816 yards this past year and the CIS single-season touchdown record (21), the CIS career touchdown record (43) and the Ontario University Athletics career rushing record (4,328), including 279 in his 2nd to last game.vI am not sure how many games the season is, however. He could end up being nothing but certainly has some real tools and is a great UDFA signing.
PhishPhan
Timmy Chang Ernest Shazor Jason White Brandon Browner Are the biggest names left. 2 DBs who are solid, just don't have speed. 1 QB who June Jones promised would win the Heisman, and just broke a lot of qb records instead. 1 QB who won the big one, first Heisman winner to go undrafted in the NFL since Ward, probably because he has knees of Jello and is oooold. sheff#1
harris >>>minor, morris. i see harris making this team as the 3rd back or primary FB. and on a side not i love the Berlin signing.im a huge UM fan and watched berlin slowly become more of a pro and become smarter with his passes and turned into a completly diff QB from his Junior year. he gives us youth and some sort of project to work with.may never be a starter but has potential to be a backup or third string. Flying_Mollusk
If Berlin cant hit an open reciever at UM, Im not sure how he is going to be able to do it in the pros. But hey, like phishphan said, possible backup to backup. Maybe someone somewhere can teach him to sharpern his skills. When the guy was on, he was frikkin on. I wish they would have given Chang a shot. I have a feeling, based on absolutley nothing, that he is going to end up doing something special for some NFL team down the road. MarlinFan10
They should have taken Chang over Berlin. He's had a much more awesome college career and he's Hawaiian.
PhishPhan
harris >>>minor, morris. 754451 Morris did average 4.0 ypc last year behind that thing called a "line", no matter how bad it was. One reason I think we should have gone with a wr with the #2 overall and give Morris a chance at starting. And as far as Berlin. I think Saban went with him becaue he is local, and he knows him. Saban recruited Berlin hard before he signed with UF. And if you saw anything this weekend, you saw Saban going with guys he's seen for the most part. The Fan
Dolphins signed Van Brown, DE/DT out of Northeast Oklahoma. Could be a good developmental player, a real sleeper guy. His brother is Seattle LB Chad Brown.
The Fan
Dolphins also signed TE Victor Seasay, a big 270lb TE who might have been the best blocking TE in the class, as well as Alex Holmes, a well-known name TE from USC and LB George Lewis from Iowa. FutureGM
The "Phins should have taken a chance on Adrian McPherson, formerly of FSU, who was available during the 3rd/4th round. The Saints ended up taking him. Does anybody know if Chris Rix was signed as an UDFA?

I think with his size and speed Rix could be a pretty good NFL WR. If only he had a brain he would've been a top 10 pick with his athleticism and arm.
