July 25, 200323 yr Yeah ok he's not all that....but he's a lefty bat who might have a little left in the tank. I'm sure Pittsburgh would part with him for a mediocre prospect, they're shopping everyone. Stairs has 12 homers in just 170 at-bats so far, and batting .299, slugging .565. Decent numbers for a 35 year-old. Encarnacion for example has the same # of homers in 384 at-bats... He's no savior, but would probably only cost a mid-level prospect, less than Rondell I'm betting. And he only makes $ 900k. ESPN Scouting Report 2002 Season Signed by the Brewers last January, Matt Stairs was expected to platoon in right field. But it never quite worked out that way. Hamstring problems and a glut of outfielders kept him on the bench for most of the first half, although Stairs did manage to get semi-regular playing time against righthanders after the break. He performed decently as a pinch-hitter and extra outfielder. Hitting, Baserunning & Defense Stairs brings to the table the ability to hit long fly- balls from the left side of the plate. He also contributes his share of walks. But his years of hitting for a good average probably are behind him. It's been a few seasons since he's seen lefthanders more than occasionally. Squat and blocky, he looks slower than he really is, and has adequate range in the outfield corners. He also throws well. His steal attempts have declined each of the past four years. 2003 Outlook Just like he did last winter, Stairs will try to find a team looking for an outfielder to platoon at one of the corner spots. The free agent probably will keep contributing with the bat, and if he's lucky, Stairs will play more than he has the last couple of years.

July 25, 200323 yr you know what, i really like matt stairs, i always have, he is a good player with pop and is having a good year, a definite upgrade at LF and with more playing time comes more HR and RBI..thanks for the info HC, if i was Admin id look at stairs before reggie sanders.... Matt "Kevin Millar II" Stairs.....i'd like to see him in teal, he is like kevin except faster, better range and arm and defense, just less pop and all around not as good a hitter, but still good in my book, what do the rest of you think..

I just checked his stats, and he's on fire this week. In the past 7 days, has 9 hits, 3 of them doubles, 2 of them HR's, and has an OBP of . 623. :w00t
July 25, 200323 yr My only worry with stairs is that he could injured. How much is he making? We would only have to pay him slighty less than $450,000 for the rest of the year...
July 25, 200323 yr I was thinking the same thing about "The Professional Hitter" after BBTN a couple of nights ago too. He is a terribly streaky hitter though. He'll hit 472 HR's one week than post a fat 2-15 the next. Definitely add some character in the clubhouse....
