Even in our glory, we are compared to the Cardinals pitching and HR allowed, rather than given props for the many stats that we are 1st place in (ERA, ER, CG, SO, etc...)

Does it really matter?

All these things are for is to stir up controversy and get more hits to the ESPN site.

ESPN Power Rankings

Last week they write "Struggling Mike Lowell takes a seat for Damion Easley. How is this possible?" While Ranking the Marlins 11th.

I stopped caring about these a long time ago because of pointless drivel that comes from these witers. They know nothing about 70% of these teams except for standings. To write what they wrote, they obviuosly havent seen more than 1 Marlins game all year. For them to suggest that Mike Lowell is being benched in favor of Damien Easley, I mean Lowell sat a game, players dont get days off ? What is he gonna write next Cabrera takes a seat for Aguila. Like you said instead of trying to write a stat that shows how dominant the pitching staff has been thus far, they point out that the Marlins have given up one more homer than St Louis.

5. Florida Marlins

6. Atlanta Braves

:D

It's great to see the ChiSox finally getting some respect.

If Chi Sox didn't get their respect this time around .. someone would be a true moron. There's no way any team is better then the Chi Sox right now, and I'm a Tigers fan :thumbdown

Only Cardinals starters have given up fewer home runs this season in the NL (Florida seven, St. Louis six).

I'm not quite sure how that's negative. I mean, to be second in the league in HR's allowed is a good stat. And what else can they say, Cabrera and Delgado have been off to a slow power-start, and Lowell has disappeared. Right now, it's all about the pitching, and unless Beckett or Willis is the holder of some very bizarre fact, what else can they write?

HR allowed is a completely pointless and insignificant stat. They could have said something like, "The complete games aren't piling up anymore, but the staff is pitching just as well. Beckett and Willis both already have 4 wins, with AJ Burnett close behind."

or

"The starting rotation isn't getting complete games at the same rate as before, but even Brian Moehler, a starter 2 years removed, has a 1.65 ERA in 3 appearances."

or

"The home runs aren't coming as often as Marlin's fans might have hoped, but they are getting the bat on the ball. 5 players in the starting lineup are hitting above .300."

get the point? #5 and all we get is a useless comparison to a Cardinal's pitching stat. I really don't care about these rankings, but is has to make you wonder.
