May 19, 200521 yr Pretty surprised by this, but he has been pitching well. I think he learned a lot from his callup last year, and obviously management has a lot of faith in the guy. He's already on the 40-man and he was only guy to fit that role so I guess it works for me. I guess he goes back down when Mota comes back next week?
May 19, 200521 yr I'm loving this move. Kensing will show what he can do within a season, rather than being called back after a week off. Puts pressure on Moehler and Leiter. Keeps Valdez from being rushed back. Far more versatile and explosive arm than Smith and Crowell. Gets the kid experience in a MLB clubhouse and learning tons and practicing in the bullpen. I'm not sure he'll stick throughout the year, when some arms gets off the DL, but it was and still is very likely we'll be entering the year with 2 or more rookies in rotation next year. It will be nice if atleast one of them has a couple months of quality MLB experience. As Earl Weaver used to say, the best place for pitching prospects is in a major league bullpen.

May 19, 200521 yr I think that Kensing will pitch in only 1 or 2 games and get sent back down when Mota returns next week- thats what I heard anyway. Randy Messenger used to be a very high prospect for us and was described as our closer of the future with a fastball around 97 mph- but he has fallen off a bit since and I think his fastball is down to 91-94 mph. Anyway, I think he will get a shot sometime. Messenger and Chad Bentz will probably get the next shots to be in our pen if more injuries occur. I hope Spooneybarger's last outing was just a fluke and he returns to form.
