July 28, 200323 yr McKeon sure seems to be publically praising a lot of the players and in the case of Loop and AA, showing a lot of confidence in them. Just lately, I read his comments about Pudge, Bump, Redman, Lowell, Luis, the bench players and then this from AP Juan Pierre , he's a sweetheart," Florida manager Jack McKeon said. "He's got tremendous work habits. He's a clutch player. He makes the brilliant catches and the exciting catches when you need them, he comes through with the key stolen base when you need it, he comes through with the key hit now and then. He's a manager's delight." The only person who he seems to have a problem with is Spooney. I know he has stated that he does not care if the players like him or not, all he wants is for them to improve while he finishes out the year with the Marlins. Although Torberg was well-liked, what is the difference in the management style betweem the two, if any?
July 28, 200323 yr if you're talking about just his management style with the players, he's also come out and challenged brad penny as well. even in the media. also i think he's nudged derek lee a little indirectly... remember in dontrelle's second start (i think) he was struggling with a big lead and TJ strolled out to the mound and told him to get his head out of his a**. when guys are working hard i think McKeon will give them a break, but if he doesn't see the effort AND they're struggling, I think that's what pisses him off. torborg tended to back up his players, even coddle them a little you could argue. with mckeon each player is held accountable. my 2 cents...
July 28, 200323 yr I think Torborg was way too "forgiving". He did not hold players accountable for their efforts and productivity. Jack definitely does. Jack also seemed unhappy with Penny (until Brad's recent surge). I kinda wonder if Jack will return next year; three-score and twelve is a lot of miles to drag around with you thru a grueling 162+ game season. FO will surely make him an offer......
July 28, 200323 yr I've heard rumors that Andy Fox has not been a "happy camper" as of late. Nothing concrete - just a rumor that I got wind of.
