May 29, 200521 yr I read that Travis Smith has been called up from AAA, but the news I haven't seen is who was removed from the 25-man roster to make room for Travis. Travis Smith Called Up, Again
May 29, 200521 yr Interesting. Smith was supposed to start Saturday night. Obviously he didn't start or pitch in the game. It has to be Frank Castillo, right? Unless someone is injured or a deal was made. With 6 other guys in the 'pen, I hope Jack doesn't go to him often.
May 29, 200521 yr Author who the hell's bein sent down???????? castillo? 787697 Maybe Lenny retired? :whistle

May 29, 200521 yr What the hell? 787722 somebody needs to take a chill pill with all these odd transactions right now I blame David Samson
May 29, 200521 yr What the hell? 787722 somebody needs to take a chill pill with all these odd transactions right now I blame David Samson 787723 Always blame Samson, that crazy midget. What does JB Miadich have to do to get the call? He's got an ERA around 2, and is striking out almost 2 batters an inning, which is unbelievable.
May 29, 200521 yr I was just looking at Isotopes pitching stats, and I thought this was incredible. Miadich leads the team in strike outs by 7 K's over the 2nd best guy with 39, despite being a reliever. Also, 3 pitchers on the isotopes staff have twice as many innings as Miadich. :wow
May 29, 200521 yr What hurts Miadich and helps Smith is that damn 40 man roster. 787733 The thing is, though, all we have do is take Smith off the 40-man roster and designate him for assignment. It's not like anyone will claim him anyway, and if a team does I'm not going to lose any sleep over it.

May 29, 200521 yr Bazardo has to be the one sent down. 787764 He was already sent down immediately after the game the other night.
May 29, 200521 yr Author "Ben Howard pitched great (5 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 3 BB, 5 K) in his spot-start in place of Travis Smith, who was promoted to the Marlins for what the Isotopes media department said was to back up A.J. Burnett should he have a bad bullpen session on Saturday. The Marlins reported Saturday evening that Burnett's bullpen session went good and that Burnett is ready to make his next start." Link
May 29, 200521 yr Which begs the question, did Smith fly directly to Miami or did he have to wait in the Albuquerque airport in the twilight hours with nothing open, not even a convenience stand?
May 29, 200521 yr Which begs the question, did Smith fly directly to Miami or did he have to wait in the Albuquerque airport in the twilight hours with nothing open, not even a convenience stand? 787781 Sounds like that was done just in case AJ didn't have a good bullpen yesterday. Whether Smith was going to start instead of AJ on Tuesday is another question. Maybe someone from the BP was going to start and Smith was going to be another back up in the bullpen. I guess the Marlins didn't want to be caught shorthanded just in case AJ would be put on the DL.
May 30, 200521 yr Author Travis Smith is now on the 25-man roster. Frank Castillo has been designated for assignment. Link
May 30, 200521 yr Can everyone say 'Mop-up'? We really don't have anyone for mop up left in the pen, outside of Riedling. Bump is proving his worth despite everyone still hating him, and he seems to be the first guy out of the pen for Jack in middle relief situations. Matt Perisho, despite sucking the big one, is still the lefty specialist. Mecir and now a healthy Mota are the designated 7-8 men, and Mr. Jones is handling the ninth. Riedling I guess is the Long/Mop guy for us right now, but Jack has been using him this past week in important situations. Maybe Smith is up to eat innings in blow outs? Hopefully that's the case, wouldn't want him getting the ball in the 7th inning with the tying run on base to relieve a starter when Jack could call on Mota, Bump, or Mecir to handle the situation.
