Major Pitching Over-Haul

Featured Replies

Leiter critical outing today. Another bad outing and he has to be out of the rotation.

Valdez still re-habbing (and he was never considered that great.)

Mota coming on but it will take weeks for him to get up to his potential.

Alfonseca still re-habbing (takes longer with six fingers.)

Spooney may be gone for the Season.

Reidling looks awful. Bump is all promise unrealized.

Mecir and Perisho are band-aids.

Todd Jones has risen to the occasion. Not lights out but knows how to pitch and has the right mentality.

Include Moehler there!

We have at least two solid Minors who may be ready (but not for up and down frequent flyer miles.) Herges and Graves are among the savvy veterans available.

I don't care if it's only June. We need major surgery, not first-aid (wounding our Minors arms and psyche.)

Get Real FO. Now!

What are you talking about? Our pitching needs major surgery? Mota will not take weeks, he looks pretty good already. No ones bullpen is full of six stars, and once Alfonseca comes back, Ill take ours over just about anyone. Arnie, ChinHigh, whatever, you still make no sense no matter your name. Our team is in first place, albeit tied, our team ERA is FIRST in the NL.

Batters with runners in scoring position have an average against Bump of .316 this season. Scoring position and 2 outs, .375. Runners on .324. Pitches 1-15 .304. Bump is a long reliever or starter possibly, but he is horrible in critical situations.

And btw, in May he had an ERA of 4.50 and an average against of .346. In 12 innings he had no walks which is great, but there were 18 hits. He is easily hittable I guess.

That's the games I am watching.

how many of those hits were extra base hits? There's only so much a pitcher can control, there's nothing a pitcher can do when the ground balls are finding holes.

Mota will be back to form in one week's time

Mecir is the third best reliever on this team

Bump is the first guy out of the pen every critical situation prior to the 8th

With Lowell, Gonzalez and Castillo, aren't be supposed to have one of the best defensive infields in the game?

I'm not a Nate Bump hater, I have nothing against the guy, but those stats illustrate what the rest of us "see" when all too often we watch Nate Bump pitch.

Nothing would please me more (individually and for the sake of the team) than for Bump to be more dependable in pressure-filled situations. Great pitchers find ways of wiggling out of situations with runners on, average pitchers (which is what I believe Bump is) need fans who come up with excuses why it's a 50/50 chance he won't execute.

so you're saying our infield should be able to get to everything? No matter how good your defense is there will always be holes. Also remember that Castillo hasn't been playing much for the last month and that makes a big difference.

Bump is all promise unrealized.

Sometimes I wonder if people on this board are watching the same games I am.

i agree..........

Mecir isn't a band-aid. His ERA is so high because of a few outings in a blow-out and that game in SD. Other than that he's been terrific in tight games.

Bump has been outstanding this year. I like what he is doing.

Like I said Nate Bump NEEDS fans who make excuses for him.

788830[/snapback]

He's got a 3.18 ERA no need to make an excuse for that.

Pitcher's don't have a lot of control over where the ball goes. They can control whether the ball is hit, how hard it is hit, and whether it's a groundball or a fly ball, but in the end the hitter controls in which direction(left, right, or up the middle) the ball goes. That's why I look at pitching stats that eliminate the amount of luck involved. Stats like K's, walks, and extra base hits(although there is a certain amount of luck with XBH, 95% of the time extra base hits are hit hard). Bump doesn't K many, but he throws strikes, and doesn't allow many extra base hits, this is why Bump will continue to have the success he's had so far this year.
