Changes on the Horizon?

We have Gonzalez for defense, not offense. So getting on base 3 times is great for him!

Two of those times were the decision of the other team, not Alex's doing

I know, but nevertheless, he got on base 3 times.

Even if all Alex does is intimidate the other team into walking them and making the pitcher the last out of the inning, he's still doing a great job because we don't have to waste our first and important out in the next inning on the pitcher, and instead, we could start the next inning off with the top of the order. :thumbup

No -- but it shows our opponents respect him enough to walk him intentionally when first base isn't even open. If the shoe was on the other foot, do we walk Guzman intentionally with men at the corners? Not a chance in hell.

:mischief He's improved his production at the plate this season immensely and is no longer an automatic out. He's hitting just under .280 right now and he hasn't had a season where he hit over .250 since 2001 when he hit .251! He's really been great at the plate so far this season. I must say, I've been very impressed with him. I think Robinson should start helping out Lowell instead though.

Gonzalez is suppose to be our worst hitter in the lineup besides the pitcher and yet, only Cabrera, Delgado, Lo Duca, and Castillo have a higher BA than him. Let's face the facts, Gonzalez has gotten on base over 1/3 of the time this season, and we didn't expect anything like that out of him this season.

He has really impressed me and he is really scaring the hell out of opponents pitchers. I'm glad we have him in our lineup.
