WildMarlinMan2003
Willingham Named Florida Marlins Minor League Player of the Month Isotopes catcher Josh Willingham has been named Florida Marlins' Minor League Player of the Month for May after leading all players in the organization with 12 homers and 29 RBI in 27 games, the Major League club announced Friday. Willingham, who hails from Florence, Alabama, led Albuquerque throughout the month of May with a .344 batting average, 31 runs scored, and an .833 slugging percentage. He also belted six doubles in the month and one triple. His torrid month has helped vault Willingham into the Pacific Coast League leaders in seven different categories. The slugger's 18 home runs is tied for the PCL lead, while his .343 average this season ranks fourth. He also leads the League in on-base percentage with a mark of .474, is tops in slugging percentage at .759, is tied for second in runs with 48, fourth in extra-base hits with 31, and tied for fifth in RBI with 47. The Marlins organization's Pitcher of the Month of May was right-hander Chris Mobley of the Class-A Greensboro Grasshoppers, who finished the month with a 0.77 ERA and seven saves in 11.2 innings-pitched. ................................................................................................ Woohoo I drafted Chris Mobley in the 2nd round!
Flag Man
I fear the FO might be considering Willy as trade bait. God, I hope not. We have at least one attractive player we can package with Treanor. Then bring Willingham up as back-up catcher, utility, etc. We need a spark. Thought Dillon would be it. But, don't think Dillon is getting enough time. Malman
Willingham is as good as gone at the deadline. 805658[/snapback] Don't be so sure...give the FO a little more credit. Don't think that Ramp, rferry and farmer fran are the only one's that are high on Willingham. I have a feeling that Beinfest and Hill have significant plans for "the hammer." The recent draft indicates that some of the young arms are going to be moved. :thumbup

Texfish
What good would it do to make him a backup catcher. He needs to be at a position where he can swing the bat. Put him on the bench and he'll get stale from lack of playing time. This kid can rake, really rake. He'll be moving somewhere soon and it will be to play, not sit, either with the Marlins or someone else, depending on the the deal that gets made. You can never have enough pitching, position players are expendable.

southkevin2
Yes he is amazing, but we have no catchers in the minors. The man needs to squat behind a plate for the year and learn how to catch the ball and how to gun a man down at second. There is no point to bringing him up otherwise. He can't learn the position from the bench and he can't be moved into the outfield. We need a catcher and he's the closest thing we have to one. Give him the year to become one. Perhaps bring him up in September for the playoff run homestretch when LoDuca will need lots of time off and the upcoming hurricane season piles doubleheaders on. Teal Shadow
Jo-Willy 26-year-old slugger is chasing the PCL's "Triple Crown". He's currently tied for 1st in homers (18), is tied for 2nd in RBIs (51), and is 3rd in batting (.353). :thumbup go get Willy
