  1. Apart from being a manager,he is also a teacher. He connects well with these kids. Unfortunately, he will be with the Marlins organinzation for only a short time. He is just getting his feet wet. You can bet that the Chicago Trib and Steinbrenner are keeping a watchful eye on how he goes about his business. There will not be enough money on the table to keep him in south Florida when the time comes.
  2. Castillo was always a great fastball hitter. Saw him jack a 98 mph Billy Wagner fastball in the Astrodome to win the game. Could never understand why a pitcher would ever bother to throw him anything but off speed stuff.
  3. He had been doing pretty good, but got in an 0-30 slump which didn't help. Hopefully, he's back on track.
  4. Denorfia is a pretty solid all-around player. He has decent speed and puts the bat on the ball which is evidenced by his low number strike outs per at bats. Jorgy says he can really rake.
  5. 100 % from a former Fish turned to Reds.
  6. Hey there Tiger, take a look at the AAA Iowa Cubs. Up the middle you've got 2 Tigers off the 2000 World Series team playing, Fontenot and Theriot. Cubs fans are everywhere in the country. Do they ever play an away game?

    question

Shadez.......couldn't have said it better. Good Job!
  8. Lest anyone forget that Willingham is an infielder and has played 1B before. I think the eventual solution is to bring Hammer back in the infield at 1B especially against left handed pitching.
  9. IMO Treanor is the best of the lot at catching. Olivo has the best arm no question, however, he has somewhat slow feet, he is late going down on his blocks, he turns his mitt sideways when catching as does Hammer thereby missing several strike calls per game. Hammer needs to play somewhere, but not behind the dish, Olivo needs to backup Treanor for a while and let's see what happens, can't be any worse than now.
  10. It'll be a pitcher. Even tho Reed may not be a contributor on the offensive side, he offers too much to be sent down just yet, pinch runner, pinch hitter, defensive move, etc.
  11. Jorgy still drops in once in while so I'm told. Must be some kind of record, his first hit the past 3 seasons in AAA ball has been a home run.
  12. My3............I can tell you've been around the game for a long time and possess a keen acumen. Yeah, let's dump a couple of players because they didn't perform in one game, only 159 to go. It's a game of averages that don't come from just a single game.
  13. Waiver wire is 72 hours. Most rosters are pretty well set right now, so don't read anything into a team not picking him up off waivers. Sometimes, late in the season, teams will pick a player up just so another team can't have them, i.e., Jose Canseco some years back. GMs live in a strange world.
  14. Ralph, when you're speaking about pop to pop time for a catcher, there is a world of difference betwenn 1.9 and 1.99 as stated in the article. it's 2 steps to someone stealing a base. If you liked Piazza then that's what you'll get.
  15. It's all hype. Willy will not catch every day and 2.0 is not the major league average, it's considered high school average. A MLB catcher should run around 1.8 to 1.9 worst case. Girardi was a 1.9 on his worst day so he should know. Bottom line, do you want the bat or not, if so, what sacrifices are you willing to make and how much defense are you willing to give up. Put the Hammer in left field or use him for a double swtch situation. Tuck may be good, but you don't learn to catch over nite or from one guru's lessons over 2 weeks.
