Mike Tyson returns!!!!

Last night was a test if you were a boxing fan who wanted to see a real fight or a freak show.

You were offered boxing's top prospect Miguel Cotto further rising in the sport in front of a large pro Cotto crowd in Madison Square Garden. Cotto shined fighting a brilliant fight against the game Muhammad Abdulaev. Cotto was too much as Abdulaev quit and Cotto will now be the grand marshal in today's Puerto Rican Parade in New York. Cotto is the next Felix Trinidad and unlike a certain rapist is actually good fight. Also on the undercard you saw young exciting Kid Diamond dominate Joel Casamoyer. Somehow it turned out a draw.

If you spent 45 bucks to watch a rapist fight his way out of a bankruptcy, shame on you. I can't see how people can support a guy who violated a women, bit off a man's ear, and has instigated constant fights. You could have seen two good fights with two young exciting fighters and you watch a piece of crap like Tyson.

If Tyson doesnt KO him in the first 3-4 rounds, McBride will win.

Sorry if some people might have wanted to see Mike Tyson in possibly his last fight ever. He is a better talent and draw than Cotto will ever be. Mike Tyson is arguably the biggest draw in American sports history and he owns 6 of the top 10 pay-per-view EVENTS ever. He might be washed up, etc....but when you get a chance to see one of the greatest icons in a sport ever in his last fight/game, etc...you take the chance. Hate him or love him, everyone should respect his talent and what he was in his sport. Bottom line and save the lame cheapshots about what you think of him as a person.

Tyson's fast start had him on pace to be among the greats, but he isn't even top 20 all time among heavyweights if you look back objectively. Sure, he beat a past his prime Holmes, but his losses to Holyfield and Douglas are what define him.

To say he is not top 20 of all-time is ridiculous and means you listen to Skip Bayless too much. Of course he is top 20 of all-time. He peaked early and his prime was before he went to jail at 24 years old. However, if you take his body of work and what he did before the disruptions, he clearly is a top 20 fighter without a doubt. He beate everyone put infront of him early on in his career. They might not have been the most amazing fighters, but it was all that was there. He won his first title at 20 and shortly after unified all three. He also won the title twice after jail. I am curious, who are 20 better heavyweight fightgers?

Mike Tyson is nothing more than a thug who can punch hard. There's little to no talent there.

But anyways, I think Mixed Martial Arts > Boxing

Well we know one thing for sure about Tyson, he never beat the two best fighters of his era

Well we know one thing for sure about Tyson, he never beat the two best fighters of his era

Of his era? Maybe but I think when that issue is said, it is wrong.

Tyson's era was clearly before he went to jail. His era was from 1985-1991 really. From the time he was 19-24. He DESTROYED Admin Holmes, Frank Bruno, Trevor Berbick, and Michael Spinks. Those were the best fighters of his era. When he fought Holyfield, he lost the first and was very much in the fight before the incident in the second. However, he was already almost 31-years-old and 7 years past his prime fighting days when he fought Holyfield for the first time. When he fought Lewis, he was 35 and 9 years past his prime.

Lewis peaked late and Tyson peaked early. If they would have fought during the late 80s, early 90s, the result would have most likely been very different. Tyson's hand speed, power, combinations, devestating uppercuts and hooks with both hands combined with his ferocity and defense back in the early days would have made him a tough task for any fighter at any point in history. However, in his later years, he relied more on his 1-punch KO power and less on the skills that he combined with it to make him what he once was.

By the time Holyfield made the jump to Heavyweight from Cruiserweight, Tyson was on his way to jail and never was the same fighter he once was. Lewis did not start his professional career until 1989 and was not willing to fight Tyson that early, and during the time he peaked to what he was, Tyson was done.

Therefore, IMO, you have to qualify in context what Tyson did and when. To say he did not beat the fighters of his "era", you have to take a closer look of what that "era" was and when Tyson was the great fighter that he was.

Mike Tyson is nothing more than a thug who can punch hard. There's little to no talent there.

Maybe now. But if you are talking about his career and saying he had no talent, you are the biggest idiot on planet earth and he might have had the MOST talent of ALL-TIME in the heavyweight division.

Ok, I'll concede that saying he's not top 20 is a bit of an exaggeration, but an agrument can be made that he is out of the top 10.

in no particular order

1. ali

2. louis

3. holmes

4. foreman

5. johnson

6. liston

7. marciano

8. dempsey

9. lewis

10. holyfield?

11. frazier?

I'm not saying its a sure thing, but you very well coud argue putting these guys ahead of Tyson. A guy like Frazier fought in a better era than Tyson did. The only doubts would be Marciano and guys like that because it's difficult to compare such different eras.

Holmes fought in an era much like Tyson's where the goods were on their way out and the new guys did not arrive yet. Admin was destoyed by Mike in 4 rounds and Mike in his prime also destroyed the common competition.

Lewis never really fought anybody in their prime to be honest with you. He fought a washed up Mike Tyson and a downsided Holyfield. He was losing to Klitchko before the eye injury saved him.

Foreman was a Gold Medalist who knocked out Joe Frazier. However, Tyrell Biggs was a Gold Medalist and Tyson absolutely punished him throughout their fight to win that. Foreman was a great fighter who made a lot more of himself by becoming victorious in a comeback against fighters in an era without Tyson and in a gap where most fighters were not great. He in his prime would have been a great matchup against Tyson. However, also something to remember is Foreman was a free swinger and was able to get away with it more in that era. Very wide, sweeping punches. In the next decade or so, the science became more of short, direct punches and I could easily see a prime Tyson eating Foreman up with those wide punches.

Frazier is one of the more overrated fighters in history. He only won his original championship when Ali was stripped of his title by refusing Vietnam. Had that not happened, a prime Ali would have run circles around him. He was smoked by Foreman and a past his prime Ali beat him twice out of three. He also lost his last 2 amateur fights.

Liston is debateable as he was a powerhouse but only knocked out the guys who were knocked out by everyone else of greatness in the era. He lost to Ali twice, even throwing the last fight. Ernie Terrell and Floyd Patterson are the most common opponents of all and both were vastly overrated as fighters.

As you can see, it is all very debateable. But you still only listed 11 and I would not even agree with most of those. IN HIS PRIME Tyson was arguably one of the best ever. Gale Sayers career was only 4 years and he is in the Hall-Of-Fame. Sometimes you should just celebrate greatness, even for whatever it was and be happy to have been a witness and part of it instead of looking for the cracks in it.

Mike Tyson is his prime would not lose to anyone on that list

its to bad that most people on this board don't remember tyson before he went to prison, the man was unstopable, yea he lost to buster douglas but i personally think that was a fix. i'll put "iron mike" up against ali, frazier, foreman, liston and i bet all those guys would end up on there backs

tyson in his prime was deadly ... however, I think many guys on that list would give him problems

mainly because many are bigger guys who know how to move in the ring

i think a prime lewis would beat tyson a majority of the time ... lewis has been suspect to the single big shot ... however, he also has a crisp, quick jab and a punishing overhand right that would give mike fits

what I loved about tyson was the way he worked the angles, deflected shots and just punished people ... he also gave them no time to recover .. if you watch his early knockouts they didn't come on the first time he sent someone down

as soon as they got up from the canvas he was on them again ... very quickly ... they had no time to recover and that is when mike would end it

no one was able to keep him at a distance, mainly because he was quick enough to take advantage of them whenever they would punch or move ... he also knew how to walk the ring

mike was a very good fighter ... he lost his discipline and ended up being a dangerous puncher and mediocre boxer ... now he is apparently washed up as both

No way is Tyson a top 10 Heavy of all time. Early in his career he was able to strike fear in prize fighters who had a lot to lose. They were cautious and it played right into Tysoin who was able to knock them down. It took a journeyman to show that Mike Tyson was easily beatable if you weren't afraid of him. It's a very simple strategy, survive his initial onslaught and then go right at him.

Tyson expelled so much energy if you would stay on him, he was done. Tyson was an entertaining fighter early on but once Cus D'amato was out of the picture it was over for Tyson. The piece of s*** he really was exposed and his career feel apart. Tyson up until 90 was like The Wizard of Oz. Everyone thought he was this perfect, grand being that was untouchable but once the curtain was pulled on who he really was their was nothing to be afraid of.

Mike Tyson's last fight was against a big tomato can who was not even a top 100 heavyweight coming into this fight. This fighter had never had one win over any top 20 fighter. Kevin Mcbride will not win any other fights against top heavyweights but then again Tyson wasn't a top heavyweight coming into this fight.

Tyson's legacy is simple, a young prizefighter who appears invincible who's devastaing knock outs made him a sight to see. Eventually, the cover was removed and what we saw was a mediocre fighter who was nothing more than street trash. He destroyed a woman's life, to which he was put away. When he got out he bit off a man's ear because he couldn't take losing and he continues to have legal problems.

Now that Tyson is retired, he will retire a bankrupt piece of s*** who will be dead or in prison for the rest of his life in the next 10 years. He had a golden opportunity to be steered clear of the street life by Cus but he didn't have the maturity or will power to hold off that life once Cus was gone. His life spiraled down the drain on his own doing. Tyson could have the world on a silver platter but he chose to be street trash. Their is not one reason to feel sorry for him, it was his life.

You're wrong. With his skills intouch and while he was in his prime, he fought people who stood up to him such as gold medal winning Tyrell Biggs and he destroyed them. After his Douglas loss, he came back to destroy Razor Rudock twice before going to jail, which was his ultimate undoing. When he was young, he had the hand speed, power and DEFENSE that made him unstoppable and if you don't believe so, go watch the tapes.

You are talking about a fighter who is 15-years removed from the end of his prime. Look at Holyfield now, by your logic with his recent losses, it should diminish how good he once was. The cover that was ripped off him was his lack of dedication to the sport after he served his 4 and 1/2 year sentence. He went in a very young man at 24 and came out 29 and disinterested.

Your displeasure for the man tanks your logic and thought process on what he was. It is one thing to not like a man but your lame and cheap shots on him are worthless. He was a great fighter who is well past his fighting days and seemed to finally be happy he is done with this portion of his life. He seemed very nice and genuine during the interviews and has lightened up as he has aged and maybe you should too. It is real easy to say negative things about people, alot harder to say nice things and wish the man good luck in the future instead of hoping for death or jail. Nice guy.

Tyson in his prime could not handle a big fighter i.e. Foreman, Holmes, Norton, Ali, etc. in their primes. Put a chump in their with him and he'll mop the floor with the loser but it's been proven time and time again, he can't handle big fighters. Bowe probably could've beat his ass.

First of all, Gold Medal's mean nothing in Professional Boxing. Their's a reason Cuban fighters rank up so many metals and almost always fail when it comes to Professional Boxing. The system is do different. As for Biggs, when he fought Tyson his record up to that point had been nothing but tomato cans. He was no prize fighter and that showed as he followed up his Tyson lost with a record of 15 - 9.

As for Razor Ruddock, the guy was a fringe contender his entire career. His only quality win was really against an over the hill Michael Dokes. Other than that he was used as a step up for up and coming fighters like Lewis and Morrison or Tyson who was on the rebound. Ruddock was never a serious threat in the Heavyweight division and any attempt to portray him as one is wrong.

Tyson was a nice young fighter, which makes him a top 20 heavyweight of all time but he is no top 10. The Heavyweight Division had far too many great Heavyweights who had sustained careers rather than a few years of early dominance. One can not judge a fighter on a brief period and expect to have it be the right call. By your standards Ike Ibaebucci(sp?) was a monster prize fighter and a true great. He showed great promise early in his career but you can not possibly say that brief period can possibly determine his legacy.

Here's your problem, Holyfield while now struggling and disallusioned with his own abilities. He was for the majority of his career a top heavyweight who took on all challengers of that time and for the most part was victorious. Evander had a 15 year career before his career really took a downward spiral. Tyson had 5 years of dominance. To compare a 15 year career of a fighter in his prime compared to 5 is wrong. Holyfield was able to stay in prime shape for 10 years longer than Tyson. You can't use the arguement that Mike was in Prison because he was in their on his own doing. It was he who made that career move and it is he who had to pay the consequences. Again back to Ike Ibaebucci, he raped that women and thus no one can truly say how great he could have been because on his own doing a huge chunk of his career was taken away.

Your displeasure for the man tanks your logic and thought process on what he was. It is one thing to not like a man but your lame and cheap shots on him are worthless. If you are trying to portray a rapist as a nice human being, you have no right to tell me I need age. He has proven from the rape until now that he has not changed. He is constantly popping up with various legal troubles and financial woes that are his own doing. You can not defend someone when they continue to stray away from the path.

The man is a rapist and a constant problem. "Oh he appears nice", well let me ask you this. Did he seem like a nice guy when he raped that girl, or when he bit off Holyfield's ear? Or maybe when he assaulted those men on the highway or even in the hotel recently. Did he seem like a nice guy then?

Yeah, I change my opinion. I love this rapist, because he's funny and he seems like a nice guy in interviews.

Hey Fan.... you cant argue with Rune... Tyson obviously kicked his dog or something

Yeah, god forbid I try to not patronize felons.

Tyson was a badass in his prime....i know he did alot of stupid things but he should go down as at least a top 10 heavyweight and 10-15 alltime
