We've been here before

Featured Replies

we've been here before.....in 1997 and 2003. in '97 we had 2 sluggers that were slumping all season. in '03 we were complete crap until the end.

just a friendly reminder

At around this time in '03, we were starting to work our way back into the WC chase. Pudge was coming out of his early-season slump, Lowell was having a career year, Enc and Lee were solid, and Pierre and Castillo were hitting well, with Pierre stealing bases on a consistent basis. Cabs had just been called up from AA. The pitching was solid even without Beckett and Burnett. Redman was pitching well, Willis was dominating, Pavano was a solid 5th starter.

This team reminds me more of last year's team. Inconsistent offense, erratic pitching from everyone except the one ace who kept the staff afloat, and a weak bullpen.

In '97 we bought an All-Star team of veterans that were there for one reason...to win a championship. In 2003, we made trades and fired a manager.

In 2005 we have Pierre whining that he doesn't play everyday, Leiter that he is not allowed to throw 120 pityches, AJ that he should be given the chance to get out of his innings, Mota that he is not closer...Me! Me! Me! Me!

We have some selfish players. In 2003 they followed Jack as youngsters and Pudge took charge. This year Mota wants out, AJ is thinking FA, Juan E. awaits a trade, and two people that are considered Marlins heart and sould (Pierre and Lowell) do not have the numbers that allow them (or should I say they may not feel its their place) to step up and take charge verbally.

Bottom line is I dont see anyone stepping forward for Jack....that did not happen in the past. This is not 1997 or 2003. Hopefully we make changes and you can mention 2005 in future years.

I agree with Fred. This team has been cursed since around the allstar break of 2005.Lack of winning brings turmoil. And the longer we struggle the more turmoil that will brew. And the more that it brews the worse we get. We are so very close to watching this team cave in.Soon, key players will be gone via trades & free agency or old age and we will be back to where we were in the 1998-2002 period where we won't even be in contention for a while. And with no ballpark deal completed and the interest in the team reaching an alltime low, the lowly Devil Rays will be Florida's team.

Just remember, the Braves were 32-36 at this point last year.

Well, then anything is possible right?! :)

We have a better team this year than they did last season AND this season.

The positives:

- Pierre won't be hitting like this for very long

-In turn, the offense will be sparked by Pierre's remergence

- Alfonseca will be back soon and Mota will get himself straightened out

-Beckett healthy

-AJ determined to turn it around in his final/contract year (he is hell bent on doing so)

Finally - baseball is a strange strange sport. One instance things look dark and bleak - and then in a flash, your team is playing like the '27 Yankees.

Just ask those pesky 2004 Braves.Just ask those 2004 Astros.

Ask those Nationals now.Ask the Chisox. Is or are our lineup of guys inferior to those teams?

It's harder to think positive than to think negative. But it's even harder because when your team is looking so horrible - it's normal to think that way.But things will TURN around!

Wow,was that me talking? :mischief2

That's the first time I have thought like that in the last three weeks or so.When the medication wears off in the morning, than I will see how I feel :mischief

We're not far enough out of it to give up, bit the play needs to improve. Tonight is a key game, we need to win. This is a tough road trip. The team needs to stay in it for now, but when it comes time to play the nats, phillies, braves again at home particularly, those are the games we must win. Losing on the road to the braves hurts, but its not the end of the world, losing to division teams at home is what sucks. The nationals wont be playing this way all year.

ohh God i can only remember our visit to the Trop last year, when brazelton brought a no-no into the 8th. FREAKING BRAZELTON!

just thank the heavens you aren't a mets fan. your team spends millions on a bat and a pitcher and you cant even play .500 baseball. baseball turns around quickly for those teams that are able to turn it around. most notebly the astros of last year.
