Just spoke to a friend in Chicago...he says the hot rumor has the Cubbies trading Corey Patterson to the Yanks for Gary Sheffield.

It got me thinking about a package deal of AJ & JP for Sheff, Gordon and a prospect or two. Obviously, NY would need to pick up a significant portion of Sheffield's contract for this to be a realistic possibility.

Thoughts?

hot damn, I get to go on the internet once every couple of weeks and I get to read this

big yawn to this

The Yankees are going to give up their 2nd best hitter for a pitcher they can probably sign after the season anyway? And they can probably get Enc for a package instead of JP.

If we get Sheff i will just pass out. Sheff is my all time favorite Marlin and his Bat can really make a diffrence on this team. But i dont see this happening anytime soon.

Give them Mota,Enc,and JP and like two prospects and then we can keep A.J and we can have a badass team with Sheff and Gordon..hey i can dream can't i?

The Mets are offering Mike Cameron and Miguel Cairo for Sheffield, who I believe are both former Yankees.

However, the Yanks are trying to get either Victor Diaz or Aaron Heilmann added to the deal, from what I hear.

Im sure we can offer something better for him. I think Sheff has the talent to bring the lineup back to life.

because they want to win now

I really dont know why the yanks are dangling sheff

but it would be awesome to send them AJ and pierre or Enc for Sheff and gordon

that is a deal that makes sense as they yanks want a starter and a speedy outfielder.....yanks need to take sheffs contract and maybe send us wang

we would have to send another prospect too, i would imagine

if i were GM i'd be working something like that

then the rotation is beckett( knock on wood), willis, moehler, olsen/leiter/valdez/wang or other prospect for the 4 and 5 spots

our rotation takes a hit but that can be alleviated if olsen does well.....it's a gamble, but it's worth it to give our offense that shot in the arm

Sheffield in right would certainly fix alot of what's wrong with this team's offense. And defensively he's no slouch in RF. Play Conine in left, Miggy at third and watch out. Mama Mia !!!!

I have been 100% against trading AJ. But Encarnacion and maybe a Marlins prospect or major league ready player like Aguila or Willingham plus AJ, for Sheffield and Gordon would be impossible to pass up, although what you do about the $11 million he's owed in 2006 would be troubling.

I guess it would depend on how much you want to win this year.

Certainly would put fans in the seats.

It's just a fantasy but it gives me goosebumps :thumbup

I think giving them JP, AJ and Mota for Sheff and Gordon would be closer then most people thing. Specially since AJ has stated he would be happy to sign an extension somewhere. Considering the fact that it was brought up on boog's show yesterday, I believe by a caller.

So never know really. I think it could be interesting so see. That would make us bring up Aguila for Center then?

castillo

lo duca

cabs/sheff

delgado

sheff/cabs

lowell

enc (over conine since enc has to play center)

Agon

the option is also there to play cabs at 3rd and conine in left as Marlins2003 suggested

but HOT DAMN

it is definitely an interesting line up but how much of the salary would the yanks take? he has three years left. He would definitely be a killer player for us.

the yanks would def have to take most of the contract........but remember, hampton is off the books next year as is pudge (i think)....that money could go toward keeping sheff however i'm not sure how much of that money is already accounted for by delgado's contract

jesus, i dont see why this isn't possible if the yanks are really dealing sheff (can someone explain to me why they are willing to move him??)

so long as we are willing to part with aj and an outfielder, any package with AJ is way better than the crap the mets are offering

we would have the best 3-4-5 combo in the bigs by far

If you people had to pick before we ever had Delgado who would you take Sheff or Delgado?

delgado, needed the lefty balance

I am all for the Jp and Burnett and prospect for Sheff and gordon but i think we need to throw in Enc. and see if we can get a starter but who? :shrugs

It is imperative that we get someone who can at least eat some inning in the place of burnett. Maybe it would open up trade possibilities with other teams but who?

Any suggestions?

not necessairly true.....if we get someone like wang in return he can vie for a spot next year and possibley contribute this year

we would have olsen/leiter/valdez/ wang or other to take the last two spots in the rotation

so the gamble here is on olsen, if olsen can hold up and pitch innings and put up decent numbers then the upgrade on offense more than offsets the downgrade that would occur in the pitching staff

the other gamble is on becketts health

I honestly believe that in Yankee Stadium the team (if those were their two options) would prefer Encarnacion (because of his arm) to a currently underacheiving Juan Pierre in centerfield.

^^^

fine by me, possibly even better for us, i'd give up either one for sheff so long as they take a lot of the contract

this deal makes too much sense, the only concern is money and how much the yanks would take of sheffs contract

if yankees trade sheff to the mets for that s***ty ass package then beinfast will have missed an amazing opportunity

So then according to what I am seeing here the possibilities are

AJ

JP

Prospect

for

Sheff

Gordon

cash, lots of cash

or

AJ

JP

Prospect

Enc

for

Sheff

Gordon

CASH

Wang/pavano and cash?

i dont think pavano is an option, too much money and the yanks wouldn't pick up BOTH pavano and sheff's contract......also, in your second proposal i dont see both JP and ENC leaving, keep one AJ/JP and prospect should net us sheff gordon and wang

in your first propsal, we dont need to give that extra prospect, JP and AJ straight up otta get sheff and gordon
