Im not saying its definite yet but apparently its about to come out that Rove was the one that revealed the name. Seems a stretch though since one would think he would be bright enough to have someone else do it. But it would be so fitting that the man who accuses dems of being unpatriotic is about to get fried for exposing the ID of CIA agents name for political reasons. No surprise.

 

 

Oh, and if its Rove, Im sure Bush pushed really hard for the investigation to catch him as he claimed he would.

 

MSNBC Analyst Says Cooper Documents Reveal Karl Rove as Source in Plame Case

NEW YORK Now that Time Inc. has turned over documents to federal court, presumably revealing who its reporter, Matt Cooper, identified as his source in the Valerie Plame/CIA case, speculation runs rampant on the name of that source, and what might happen to him or her. Friday night, on the syndicated McLaughlin Group political talk show, Lawrence O'Donnell, senior MSNBC political analyst, claimed to know that name--and it is, according to him, top White House mastermind Karl Rove.

 

Today, O'Donnell went further, writing a brief entry at the Huffington Post blog:

 

"I revealed in yesterday's taping of the McLaughlin Group that Time magazine's e-mails will reveal that Karl Rove was Matt Cooper's source. I have known this for months but didn't want to say it at a time that would risk me getting dragged into the grand jury.

 

"McLaughlin is seen in some markets on Friday night, so some websites have picked it up, including Drudge, but I don't expect it to have much impact because McLaughlin is not considered a news show and it will be pre-empted in the big markets on Sunday because of tennis.

 

"Since I revealed the big scoop, I have had it reconfirmed by yet another highly authoritative source. Too many people know this. It should break wide open this week. I know Newsweek is working on an 'It's Rove!' story and will probably break it tomorrow."

 

Here is the transcript of O'Donnell's McLaughlin Group remarks:

 

"What we're going to go to now in the next stage, when Matt Cooper's e-mails, within Time Magazine, are handed over to the grand jury--the ultimate revelation, probably within the week of who his source is.

 

"I know I'm going to get pulled into the grand jury for saying this but the source of...for Matt Cooper was Karl Rove, and that will be revealed in this document dump that Time magazine's going to do with the grand jury."

 

Other panelists then joined in discussing whether, if true, this would suggest a perjury rap for Rove, if he told the grand jury he did not leak to Cooper.

 

Besides his career at a TV journalist, O'Donnell has served as a producer and writer for the series "The West Wing."

 

According to published reports, Patrick Fitzgerald, the special prosecutor in the case, has interviewed President Bush and Vice President Cheney and called Karl Rove, among others, to testify before the grand jury.

 

"The breadth of Fitzgerald's inquiry has led to speculation that it has evolved into an investigation of a conspiracy to leak Plame's identity," the Chicago Tribune observed on Friday, "or of an attempt to cover up White House involvement in the leak."

 

Cooper and New York Times reporter Judith Miller, held in contempt for refusing to name sources, tried Friday to stay out of jail by arguing for home detention instead after Time Inc. surrendered its reporter's notes to a prosecutor.

 

Miller argued that it was pointless to imprison her because she will never talk. She submitted letters from soldiers and military officers with whom she was embedded during the war in Iraq attesting to that. (Miller's pre-war coverage of Iraqi weapons of mass destruction has drawn much criticism.)

 

She asked the judge for "very restrictive home detention," if confined at all, including an electronic bracelet and excluding Internet access and cellular phones. As an alternative, she asked to be sent to the federal prison camp for women in Danbury, Conn.

 

Meanwhile, on Capitol Hill, Sen. Frank Lautenberg, D-N.J., said Friday that several unidentified Senate Republicans had placed a hold on a proposed resolution declaring support for Miller and Cooper.

 

``Cowards!'' Lautenberg said of the Republicans. ``Under the rules, they have a right to refuse to reveal who they are. Sound familiar?''

 

Lautenberg's resolution is co-sponsored by Sens. Richard Lugar (R-Ind.) and Christopher Dodd (D-Conn.) It says no purpose is served by imprisoning Miller and Cooper and that the First Amendment guarantees freedom of the press.

Unfortunately, you're right. Even if they can pin something on Rove, he will get off somehow, due to his importance to the President.

There's no way this even goes through... They will make this go away, mark my words - nothing will come of it. Rove is the overlord of Washington.

From what Ive read, this stuff isnt going to be linked back to Rove or Libby. Their conversations seemed to have been well set up. If anything, theyre apparently going after Rove for perjury. Whatever the situation, someone leaked the name.

No this time itll be the dems doing it. I didnt see the dems jumping all over clinton when he committed perjury. Its just blatant partisanship. Both sides are guilty of it

I understand that lying to a grand jury is lying to a grand jury, but you have to see the fundamental difference between lying about a sexual encounter - which is of no consequence to anyone but the president and his family, and Rove's lie, which put someone else's life in danger and ended their career?

 

C'mon, don't give me this crap. Its absolutely ludicrous. Not to mention Rove's underling who lied through his teeth to the entire nation and hundreds of thousands of people have lost their lives because of it.

NEW YORK Two days after his lawyer confirmed that his name turned up as a source in Matthew Cooper's notes on the Valerie Plame/CIA case, top White House adviser Karl Rove refused to answer questions about the development today.

 

Rove travelled with President Bush when he spoke at a July 4 event in West Virginia today, but refused all requests for interviews about his role in the controversy that threatens to send Cooper, of Time magazine, and Judith Miller of The New York Times to jail this week for refusing to reveal sources.

 

Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY) had called on Rove to clear the air on Sunday. "We've heard it from his lawyer, but it would be nice to hear it directly from Mr. Rove that he didn't leak the identity of Valerie Plame, and that he didn't direct anyone else to do such a dastardly thing," said Schumer.

 

Outside the presidential rally in Morgantown, one protester made reference to the case, holding a sign that read: "Jail Karl Rove," according to a New York Times dispatch.

 

Rove's lawyer has asserted that while he was interviewed by Cooper he was not the key source who revealed Plame's identity as a CIA agent. Rove's critics, however, suggest that he could be charged with perjury if he did not tell the truth about this to a grand jury.

 

Several dozen other protesters demonstrated against the war in Iraq, the paper said, chanting, "Please support our troops, not the president!" But a large turnout for the president more than countered that.

News reports have implicated White House Deputy Chief of Staff Karl Rove -- the architect of Bush's two presidential campaigns -- in the leak, but spokesman Scott McClellan said on Monday the White House does not want to discuss a pending investigation.

 

"No one wants to get to the bottom of it more than the president of the United States," he said.

 

"And I think the way to be most helpful is to not get into commenting on it while it is an ongoing investigation."

 

The White House spokesman faced sharp questions not only about Rove, but also about his own statements in the nearly two-year-old criminal probe.

 

In 2003, McClellan said it was "totally ridiculous" to suggest that Rove played any role in the leak of CIA officer Valerie Plame's identity. He also said Bush has insisted that his staffers cooperate with the investigation by special prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald, and that anyone responsible would be fired.

 

"You stood at that podium and said that Karl Rove was not involved, and now we find out that he spoke about Joseph Wilson's wife," one reporter said. "So don't you owe the American public a fuller explanation?"

 

"There will be a time to talk about this, but now is not the time to talk about it," McClellan replied.

Interesting to see the Administration actually in a real dilemma, it seems they are pushed up against the wall with all of this Rove news. All though I don't really have much respect for the President, if Rove was linked to this, and the President follows through on his pledge to remove anyone who was involved I will be happy with him... for at least 1 day. If not... well, then I will just have to add another Anti W bumper sticker to my car. Take that!
