AJ Burnett on Outside the Lines

Featured Replies

badass..... yea i was just going to post something on this.....

great news

Imagine our staff next year. 3 #1 starters, Burnett, Willis, Redman. Then throw in Beckett who has #1 starter stuff.

You could get away with saying Penny has #1 starter stuff, as well...

Five #1 starters... WOW...

Even if we have to get rid of 2 or 3 players from our line up this year, if we can keep this staff together we will be good for years to come.

We'll be good next year at least. If we want to be good for years to come, we'll have to sign them all to long, lucrative deals...

and maybe Pavs' to the pen....

*wipes drool*

Just think that when the playoffs come, Pavano will be readily available in a pen that has decided to become unstoppable. I like our chances.

Is there any staff in the NL deeper and more talented than ours? I don't believe so.

If we made the playoffs, we'd probably go with a four man rotation. Pavano would go to the pen. We'd be great.

And the Dodgers have a more talented rotation/bullpen, but other than them I can't think of anyone that comes close.

Redman is ridiculous unstoppable and hes in love with our stadium. Willis is his Thug self. Beckett has decided to start pitching like he can and hes got more in him then this, he can pitch even better I think. Penny can turn it on whenever he wants, and he seems to have done that. Pavano is a hot-cold kind of starter who would be better in the pen but is a nice number 5 option for now. And AJ is freaking AJ, and hes going to be throwing HARDER. I almost fear for the NL East.

Almost

Anyone have any figures on what it would cost to have Burnett next season? And is it now possible for him to start next season on schedule and not halfway through the season? Awesome news regardless.

I also believe both Bridges and Wayne can compete for a rotation spot next season....as well as Bautista, but I prefer him to spend another season in the minors.

Our rotation will be packed as it is. Wayne and Bridges won't beat out anyone for a spot.

Your ruling out injuries and pay increases...its not guaranteed we pay Pavano, Redman, and Penny next season. Penny could be traded in the off-season, and Redman/Pavano will be expensive. Anything can happen, try and keep an open mind.

I seriously doubt that Burnett will be a Marlin next year. Penny will probably be gone too. Who knows what the rotation will look like. As we all know, nothing ever stays the same.

I agree Penny will probably be traded and possibly AJ as well, depending on how he heals. Thats why I mentioned Bridges, Bautista, and Wayne as possible starters next season.

Burnett will not cost near as much as you think he will . No team is going to spend the money on a Pitcher who had a TJ surgery .

Ill take that back .....Unless AJ comes back throwing 100 mph and winning games and being able to throw 80+ pitches a game he will go for some big bucks . i do think thats a long shot but for the marlins sake i hope to god he does .

If you want to know how much AJ will cost, just look at what the Yanks paid Jon Lieber last offseason knowing he was several months away from possibly starting for them. It might be cheap, it might just cost a pretty penny. Time will tell.

It is funny how you guys are already worrying about things. I guess that is a Marlins' fan reaction. I understand it, being one myself. But look, it is too early to tell what is going to happen. I think this staff will be kept together. And I think this staff wants to stay together. But since we are on the topic...

Trade Penny. The guy can get us pretty much anything we want. And we dont need him (nor his BS).

Re-sign AJ. Lock him up. And then, give him another season to recover. Dont rush him.

That leaves us with Willis, Redman, Beckett. Pavano is a #3 on most teams, but for us a #5. If we keep him in the bottom half of the rotation, we are doing fine.

That leaves us with one open spot. That is not a problem for an organization as deep in pitching as we are. And ladies and gentleman, we got some damn good ones that in a few years, we may have to make some tough - but damn good - decisions. The FO's MO is pitching is the best form of currency, and in this game it is. You can get anything you want with pitching. Everyone sweats Billy Beane, but I think people will start taking notice of what the Marlins are doing here...

As for our staff being the best in the NL, we have the ability to be. The only staff I think could compete is of course the Dodgers, but also the Astros have some good young arms there. Phillies even have a couple and the D Backs too. But if you want fireballers with dominating stuff, we got it covered. Beckett, Burnett, Willis. Redman is a craftsman. Penny has the ability, but no motivation. I like what we got here - more so than any other staff in MLB - including the A's (but I like Harden - he is going to be their ace one day).

I seriously doubt that Burnett will be a Marlin next year. Penny will probably be gone too. Who knows what the rotation will look like. As we all know, nothing ever stays the same.

Burnett will probally Come back in the Middle of the year for 2004. It will take long to get his Arm Strength Back and he will have to condition again. That will take pretty long....

Here is a short Article on AJ Burnett....

The team has been winning without A.J. Burnett, who would have been the Opening Day starter. Burnett, who had Tommy John Surgery in April, is eager to throw a baseball again, especially because he knows he is less than a month away. Burnett is scheduled to see Dr. James Andrews on Sept. 1 and expects to start throwing after that visit. He won't pitch this season but will start a slow program back next month.
