What I mean is, when Lowell was hitting in the 5 hole, Cabs or Delgado (whoever batted 4th would get junked or walked) Has Juan batted 5th all year? No. Juan is a major league player. That means that the law of averages show that eventually he will get a hit when it counts. I just love how when Enc does something, all the Enc lovers have to shove it in everyone else's faces. I'm pretty sure someone can post when Enc screws up for everytime he does something good. That can be said about every player on this team.

July 7, 200521 yr This is nuts. Why would we trade one of the few clutch hitters in a lineup that struggles night after night to get the big hit. We were 0-11 tonight until Enc came up with the game winning RBI. Anybody who thinks Conine is an adequate replacement for Enc in RF is dreaming. That's like saying Easley is an adequate replacement for Alex at short. Sure they could play the position, but not nearly as well. I say we keep Enc until it is clear we have become sellers. This team is going to have to show something this next month or Beinfest is going to have some very tough decisions to make at the trading deadline. I would rather move Lowell if possible, it's just I can't imagine who would want him the way he is hitting.

I've wondered if his bout with cnacer years ago and all of his treatments have slowed him down. If so, it's a real shame to see that happen to someone, I wouldnt wish that on anyone. He has been reminding me of Mike Schmidt towards the end of his career - not hitting the fastballs that he could smash out of the park in his sleep, fielding errors that used to be routine...

The discussion at hand is why to trade Encarnacion. I have yet to see any kind of reason to deal him to any team whatsoever that isn't outweighed by five things keeping him here. Wait, your unclutch argument is gone, so now he isn't a team player - something that cannot be quantified from a statsheet and therefore must just be assumed? Well you know what, Miguel Cabrera dreams of little boys at night, while we're making up mindless drivel. Let's trade him, Hermida can play two positions since he's wunderkid anyways.
July 7, 200521 yr It's hard to give up a productive member of your squad when you still have a chance at the playoffs, BUT... 1. Encarnacion is not coming back next year. Better to get some value from him. It's questionable if the club would even risk offering arbitration to collect on the draft picks. Simply put, he's one of the easier pieces to move 2. We have players that could potentially replace his performance, or atleast do a suitable job. 3. There are parts of the team that could be improved via a trade

The Marlins wanted a Niner-Pierre-Cabs OF. The Fish got him back in the trade last year because he was tanking in LA. That bum shoulder kept him from having a good season. Now it's fixed and look at how he is producing.

Our number one weakness is the fricking offense, how the hell do you trade a key piece of the offense? To get what? He is not an elite player, so he won't bring a top 3 prospect and even if he does, that won't help us now. He will probably get us a middle reliever. How those that help this team now?
