Posted July 7, 200519 yr ok, obviously he's playing SICK. but if we get rid of him we have willy and conine that can step in. that wouldnt be a big drop in production from Enc, and would help us fill more important gaps on the team.... like one more sick proven reliever (and yeah i know the relievers have been solid lately) but i wouldnt mind seeing him stay either, just my thoughts. great win tonight
July 7, 200519 yr I agree with Ramp. We need to see what teams are willing to give up for him. Maybe a solid closer/reliever or maybe we can package him in a trade with someone else (AJ, Lowell, etc.) to acquire a big bat.
July 7, 200519 yr Hermida is the future...Enc is not gonna be here forever...If someone puts a good deal on the table for him now while his value is good, then pull the trigger on the deal...As much as I truthfully am not a big ENC supporter, I wouldn't trade him by deadline if crappy offers were on the table. It would have to be good to deal him now. If Hermida is ready next spring training then you shop ENC again in March...

Enc is a crucial piece of this offense right now with Lowell bombing. If Lowell were himself I'd do a trade. But Enc is to important right now.
July 7, 200519 yr Our most dire need is a bat but if we can get a top flight reliever (which I doubt) I'd say we should just keep him where he is.

A career .265 hitter like Encarnacion (who is in a hot streak) will not be enough to make a decent playoff push. We need a power hitter, preferrably a lefty.

July 7, 200519 yr Rather trade Lowell than Enc,leave Enc in right bring up Hermida to play left and send Cabs to third

Delgado is slumping and Cabrera isn't bringing runs in.
July 7, 200519 yr Despite not having a high average Enc has been very clutch for us, even tonight. However, I think he is playing above himself right now, and if any teams are interested in biting..the thing is, I'm not sure what we need most in return. I'm thinking a package deal for someone with a bat bigger than Enc..
July 7, 200519 yr I'll go along with anything that improves the success of this team...if that means Lowell or Enc is gone but it was a good trade in return, then so be it...Cabs and D-Train are the only 2 off-limits if you could only keep 1 pitcher and 1 position player out of trade talks...hmmm, that would be an interesting poll: If you could only protect 1 position player and 1 pitcher from trades by the deadline, who would you keep?
July 7, 200519 yr Cabs can't bring anyone in if he has no big bat behind him, they'll keep junking Cabs or walk him

I am surprised that this team doesn't experiment with things like that occasionally. It would be a lot of fun to watch, win or lose.
July 7, 200519 yr After Bret Boone, I wonder what the FO is thinking about Mikey 843670 I'm sure we will know within a week.
July 7, 200519 yr Ok, so we deal Enc. We stick a platoon of an over the hill outfielder with a player who can't play defense and has yet to show at a big league level (granted, in limited chances) that he can succeed. The offense lives on, the pen or starting staff is bolstered, and we ride our magical horse into the sunset. This, is in a perfect world. Reality? Deal Enc now, lose the hottest bat bar none in the lineup. Niner plays everyday, with a 50/50 shot of productivity due not to lack of talent but age. Hope you get someone talented in return, and maybe have the pen keep it's life up. But when Pierre and/or Castillo get on base, who is going to magically drive them in? Because you've just shipped your only current run producer over to Siberia for a bucket of Coronas and someone you hope will solve a problem that isn't even a problem at the moment. You're supposed to deal from strengths. Middle of the lineup is NOT a strength at the moment. Also, what the hell is the hurry to deal a player who won't be here next year? If he performs well, he maxes himself out of our range and Hermida/Willingham starts Opening Day. If he plays poorly, we don't resign him and Hermida/Willingham starts Opening Day. Why not milk him while we can and go in guns ho for the playoffs, instead of lining our pockets while shooting ourselves in the leg?
July 7, 200519 yr Lowell is untradable. Who would trade for someone who is batting .224? 843678 Baltimore
