Cambridge Marlin
I have no idea about the A-Rod situation, but in most international sports, it can go back to where your grandparents were born.

Same with the Olympics To be honest, I would much rather see a USA vs World format. On this format, there are going to be a lot of teams that suck

Guest Juanky
AROD was waving a Dominican flag last night, he'll play with the DR. And if he does, that team is absolutely ridiculously stacked. I think it could be something like this: 2B Castillo / Soriano 3B Rodriguez 1B Pujols RF Guerrero LF Ramirez DH Ortiz (I think they are using a DH) SS Tejada CF Guillen C Olivo Plus the staff is nothing to laugh at with Pedro, Bartolo Colon, and Odalis Perez. That's one future hall of famer, an ace, and a damn good 2-3 guy. While the pen isn't looking at KRod, they have Armando Benitez, Octavio Dotel, Yhency Brazoban, Guillermo Mota, Damaso Marte, Frank Francisco, and Jose Mesa. The benchy will probably include some combination of Aramis Ramirez, Sammy Sosa, whoever doesn't start at second of Castillo and Soriano, Rafael Furcal, Arian Beltre, Julio Franco, and Wily Mo Pe?a, among others. I don't think anybody else has that kind of talent on their team. And DR Venezuela might meet in the first game of the first round, how cool is that. He was the catcher during the Caribean series for the Dominicans
The Marlin Man
that sucks about AROD, he should play for the US anyway, i like this format, this will be great, there are 4 teams or so that will excel but given time others will be able to field competitve teams aswell i see venezuela, DR, US and japan being the leaders right now
Guest Juanky
Why should he play for the US? I don't think you appreciate the pride hispanics have for their country, wherever they may live. We're a very culture oriented people. If it weren't for Cuba's team representing an evil regime, I'd root for the Cubans and people like Rafael Palmeiro and Livan Hernandez would play for them. And not only would the World team be so insane that it would be almost unfair to have one country have to face them, but this 16 team format works alot better. In the future, when more countries build up programs in the Orient and in Europe, they can have open qualifying. Besides, not all these stars would show up to play for a World Team in March. But for their country, they will all be there.

QuickGold
Why should he play for the US? 852428[/snapback] Because he was born here (NYC) and has lived here his whole life? Americans are by definition immigrants. A-Rod should play for US.
Passion
On a related world note...Gary Sheffield once again shows his true colors.. Gary Sheffield said yesterday that he would not play for the United States in the recently announced World Baseball Classic. ''My season is when I get paid,'' Sheffield said. ''I'm not doing that. I'm not sacrificing my body or taking a chance on an injury for something that's made up. A lot of guys feel that way. They won't say it like I will, though.'' :plain

You can consider yourself American first all you want, but I would venture to say that a great number of the people born here wouldn't agree with you, especially those born here out of force and not by their parents' choice. If Alex plays for the US, he would be wise not to go back to the Dominican anymore because he won't get a warm reception. And Brodie, considering Manny was part of the big huddle of Dominicans at home yesterday, and his buddy Big Papi is openly talking about the Dominican team, I think it's safe to say he'll play with the DR. I really dont think the dominicans would care who he plays for either way, AROD will always be a pansy to me for that little girl slap he pulled in the playoffs
