MarlinsFan253
Well, I find it odd that Piazza is on the team. I think the NL is a popularity contest. As a position player, he is one of the slowest catchers in the league. As a hitter this year, he is not doing very well at all. What other weakest links can you think of? Mets_bs
Piazza is still the best offensive catcher in the NL, his selection speaks more about the lack of talent at catcher in the NL than the All Star Game being a popularity contest.

MarlinsFan253
Piazza sucks. I could steal a base with him behind the plate. :thumbup JK! JK!

Because of him players having better seasons are sitting home, like his teammate Cliff Floyd ...

Cliff Floyd should've been there, Morgan Ensberg wouldn't have made it if Izturis didn't go down (who shouldn't have been there anyhow). Plus, the whole slew of outfielders, that had to be taken to satisfy the stupid one player from every team custom, left the NL with only two 1st basemen. Since both are starting (one via the DH) that means we have no backup first basemen, and Delgado is certainly deserving to be the third man. Kinda disjointed. Sorry, I tapped that out really quickly. Hopes it makes sense.
Guest FlummoxedLummox
It's usually a popularity contest for both leagues. No surprises here. 852651[/snapback] This is true. But the NL just got screwed, compared to a pretty decent starting lineup for the AL.
jackarmstrong
i think the one-player-from-every-team rule is worth having. it does marginally favor the AL, because the NL has more teams it has to represent. but the all-star game is primarily for the fans, and giving each team a reason to cheer is important. getting rid of that rule would further alienate the fans from teams like tampa and kansas city. of course the difficulty of getting a worthy all-star from every squad speaks to the bigger issue for baseball of competitive imbalance. but for the moment the every-team-represented rule i think is an overall benefit for fan support, that carried over to team support in general,

Passion
They lose because they dont put their pitching horses in the 1st through 4th innings. The aL is way too powerful as well.
