SCIAMBI UP FOR METS JOB

Featured Replies

Marlins radio play-by-play announcer Jon "Boog" Sciambi is a

leading candidate to fill the spot Bob Murphy will vacate at

WFAN in New York, according to industry sources. Murphy, 78,

earlier this week announced his 41st season calling games for

the Mets would be his last.

In his seventh season on the Marlins' radio broadcast team,

Sciambi, 33, is a New York native. He grew up in Roosevelt

Island and attended Manhattan's Regis High School.

Sciambi would not comment on the Mets job.

A source said WFAN has contacted Sciambi to gauge his interest,

but they are not expected to announce Murphy's replacement until

after the season. The new hire would work with lead play-by-play

man Gary Cohen.

Last winter, Sciambi was a finalist for the play-by-play job

with the Rockies.

Another Marlins Broadcaster going out the door most likely. My question, why would you want to call the Mets? :thumbdown

why wouldnt you want to go to NY and call the Mets?

sorry, but i would take that job....

The reason i posted this is because for many games, Boog and Dave are my only way to get the game live. It will be a shame to see Boog leave. If he does leave, who would replace him?

anybody would replace him

they would just find someone else and that would be the end of it.

who cares who is televising the game on the radio, i know i dont

hopefully not craig minervini.....

he's fine for interviews & some laughs during the games, but not for the full-time job.

I agree. Like Craig, but don't become the radio play-by-play guy please. your voice is good for TV, but not for radio.

I want Joe Angel back!

And the Marlins are in the Win Column!

who cares?

I care. Having grown-up with Red Barber and Mel Allen and Vin Sculley, I love listening to radio play-by-play. I mute the TV. Can't stand the would-be TV personalities, hearing how their daughters are doing in soccer, etc., and sometimes not even calling a televised at-bat! Boog is good (now) because he is a student of baseball and broadcasting. And he's paid his dues. He had to be subservient to Joe Angel (my favorite) but then he treated Van Horne like crap. That's changed, fortunately. Go Boog! Go for the big market and the big money.

I hate to say this but a job is a job. Your comment is like me saying,

"Why would I want to teach Hispanic, Black, (insert any minority here) children?".

The game is the game, no matter who plays it.

Good luck, Boog. It is not only that Yenta. He has more with WQAM than the Marlins. Next year in September, Boog, if he stays with the Malrins/WQAM, will go to Athens in Greece and be the voice of the Olympic games on the radio for westwood One/CBS Radio and that is also a big factor since the Mets might not allow him to leave. I enjoy those broadcasts as well. He has done 3 Olympics or so and he does them well.

He is also very well versed in all the major sports you can think of and would be a loss to the Marlins. Good thing we still have Dave Van Horne, but Minervini better stay away from the radio booth.

Good luck, Boog. worst analogy ever.

I really hope he stays though. He's an asset to the Marlins, and it would be great to see him stick around here for a long time. Dave Van Horne I'm not so attached to...

It's actually a pretty good analogy.

I for one can't stand Van Horne's voice...maybe that's just me...but Boog is a great announcer. Wherever he goes he'll be loved.

And why would you not want to go to NY? First of all, WFAN can most likely pay more than WQAM can. The Mets have one of the biggest fanbases in the world. Not to mention that working for WFAN would get him exposure, and things like ESPN Magazine, ABC Sports, and so many others are based in New York. It could lead to bigger and better things for him.

I for one love Boog and hope he doesn't leave, but if he does I wish him the best of luck.

Boog has wanted to leave here for quite a while. He was trying to get the Rockies job this winter but wasn't good enough to earn the job. He believes he is too good to be doing Marlins games and has said as much on LeBatard's radio program.

If he wants to leave, let him leave. No big loss.

I hope that he gets the job as well. Maybe if he leaves it will be the impetus that causes the Marlins to throw Van Horne out on his ear. Van Horne has to be one of the absolute worst p-b-p guys ever.....

It's actually a pretty good analogy.

I agree with you mkotsay07. My point is that all these things you mention are what a sports broadcaster wants.

But if "why would I want to work for the Marlins?" = "Why would I want to teach minority children?"....

Well I can think of a few reasons a teacher might want to stay in a poor inner-city area for example to teach. Not the least of which would be trying to make a difference with kids who need it the most.

Can you think of any reason Boog would keep the Marlins job over NY? I can't come up with one. That's why I thought it wasn't a good analogy.

I tend to agree with Marlins2003, as much as I like his work, I don't think he's really happy here.

FF, as per your sig line you need to start ripping Lee again. Please.

When you start to analyze how good Boog is as a color man as compared to other individuals throughout the league you can only draw one conclusion:

D. Lee sucks! God I knew we should of traded him when we had the chance. I think he smelt the blood in the water around the deadline and picked it up so he wouldn't catch any extra heat. But now he's back to his same old self, andhe's playing hurt now, to boot!

God D. Lee, you suck like a black hole, a black hole that starts in the middle of the line-up and sucks the light and life out of all those who may be in the lineup around it.

Ok, I said it. My guess is that Lee goes 4-5 tonite with an HR and 4 RBI's.

If Boog wants to leave then let him. It really disappoints me that he has no gratitude to the community that he got his start in (Boog used to be pregame hos for Panthers, same job Goldie has now.)

I hope they don't put Goldie to call Marlins games, then we would have a really big problem!

I could see Dave Van Horne move to TV with T-Hut, and Kasper move to radio and do it solo. Or a combo where DVH works 1, 2, 3, 7, 8, and 9th innings on TV and Len works 4, 5, 6th innings on TV. They would switch like Angel/O'Brien did.

so a player in AAA should stay there instead of going to the show?

i know the Marlins arent AAA but the Mets are the biggest thing besides the Yankees....

sorry, you would have to be dumb to not take that job

If you call WFAN a classy operation, then I would take it. But it isn't in my opinion, but hey Boog is a New Yorker and he is going home. Home for me is Florida so my motive would be to stay here.

So long Boog, enjoy calling Mets losses to the Marlins on WFAN. :p

he hasnt accepted yet has he?

I wish him luck on getting the job. If he doesn't want to call Marlins games, then I don't want him to.
