Cubs get a Patterson Replacement...

Biggest move of the day.

And no, that's not sarcasm. Lawton has been the best leadoff hitter in the majors this year, filling a major need for the Cubs

Matt Lawton like Paul Lo Duca has been known to suck in the 2nd half of the season.

True, but Lawton's on-base ability has remained steady after each second half which is all that is needed for a leadoff man. Plus it's a contrat year for him.

Shocking, the Pirates let the Cubs rob them at the deadline. Gerut IMO will never be the player he was before the injuries, and Lawton has a sick OBP working for him.

Great job by the Cubs though, they basically got Matt Lawton for Jason Dubois in the long run, and that's stellar work (even though their not picking up an arm or two for the pen spells doom for their playoff chances).

They will have Williamson and Wood joining their bullpen

Wood needs to keep himself healthy desperatly, and he's never pitched in the pen so we don't really know what to expect out of him.

Williamson is a pretty good bet as long as his velocity is there, he was a solid pitcher before the injury (although he will have to shake off some rust obviously).

Oh yeah, how can I forget the lovely additions of Kerry to the pen (I'm not sold on that), Nomar coming back from injury, and Williamson coming off surgery (correct?). While this was a good move and it'll help their offense some I dont know how Wood and Williamson are gonna help the pen that much.
